for 949 that's a rip off. Maybe the 999 one with the 3650, however ;)

It means there is no height leverage between screen and bezel, creating a smooth effect.

Yeah, the $949 isn't that good of a deal, but the $999 one isn't bad. But when the 7831 has a 2.26 GHz Core 2 and 9800 GTS, they still don't come close to even Gateway's best deals.

Well, considering all that it has, the price seems fair. The QX9300 is about $1500 alone, a 128 GB SSD is probably about the same, and two nearly top-of-the-line graphics cards - $4200 doesn't seem unreasonable. And really, it's not like any high-end model is trying to be economical, let alone one this high-end. I don't think the market for laptops this expensive is going to change a whole lot.

And why not offer it just because the stock markets haven't been going up quite as much as usual the past couple weeks? After all, they've already designed it.

    Honestly?

They top out at around 500 USD on Newegg and imagine the deals Toshiba would get as a major consumer if they bought direct from the manufacturers. Huge discount.

I think you're talking about three 128 SSD's at the price you think they cost..

Actually toshiba makes their own drives so it should be even cheaper. I am surprised they did not offer 256GB SSD as they announced one just couple of weeks back.
