I have got to get me one of these !!!!!!!! God Bless
-
impressive 9400m switchable in a comp capable of holding the best of the best hardware is the standout feature in my books... beacuse really every thing els is just exsessive and its refreshing to see such a overkill/to/requirements laptop have seriouse battery saving options
will it have smart bay Batterys?
And could some one enlighten me on what a edge-to-edge LCD is.? is that just how its mounted?
Its nice to see Alienware using their own designs as well... they def seem to be more progresive in features and im one sucker for big risks beacus thats exactly what this notebook is!
Advice to any one in these hard times.. purchase with care aliens can not always be trusted but do have nice technology. -
Wow. Looks like an F117 fighter.

Well it's alot better priced than previous Alienware machines.
-
Not bad for AW. Although all powerful means i7 CPUs, still a very nice rig for 1800 and no funky numpad like the Sager. Not to mention a 16:10 screen! Kudos to AW!
-
Impressive rig from Alienware, really impressive and innovative...
Hybrid Graphics make up for more battery life, one of the major issues in Extreme Performance Laptops, 2 GTX 280m's on SLi, nice, Intel Core 2 Extreme, cool.
Looks like that we got a new contender in the high-performance laptops market! -
Hybrid graphics is nothing new people - Toshiba already showed that off last year with the Qosmio X305-Q708.
That said, this probably is the notebook the Toshiba X305 should have been - 1920x1200 screen, blu-ray and a starting price of $1800. I would like to see how the top-end configuration prices out compared to the $4200 Toshiba. -
Chaz, you have the GTX 280M listed as the base configuration GPU, but the PC World article has the GTX 260M GPU listed. Is this a typo on their part?
-
No core i7.
-

Wow that is a beast. I'd hate to have that on my lap. Looks to be 3" thick or more (just estimating based on the height of the laptop in porportion to the screen size). Could get an amazing desktop that blows this out of the water for the price...
-
I'm not aware of a laptop with an i7 that will even come close the gaming performance dual 280M GTX's in SLI available in this rig.
For other tasks I don't know, but for gaming on a laptop, GPU power always trumps CPU power. -
Gotta kinda feel bad for Alienware's marketing team. They go through all this effort to build up hype, build suspense... and BAM! It's all blown mere DAYS before it's ready to be announced.
-
High end Wow play requires a 3gig duel or more.. (with no suport past 2 processors)
atm a duelcore processor at the highest speads possible is what you want.. every thing els is just speculative future proofing.. -
It just adds to the excitement. -
They know they have a winner on there hands, why wait to have the people have a look.
The surprising part is it looks affordable, I really hope AW does not ream us for upgrades.
Even with no i7 core CPU. Quad support is more than enough and I'm sure we will see i7 core CPU's in later series of this monster.
I never thought I would want a AW laptop, they looked and performed very, very good but were always overpriced in my eyes but this has totally changed my mind.
ALL POWERFUL
So far it seems that they could be right!
Can't wait for a full review to see what benchcrushing numbers this laptop puts out.
I guess I better start saving $$$Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

An edge-to-edge LCD has a piece of plastic that goes over the display and reaches to the borders of the display so it looks like a seamless surface. You can check the HP dv5t review link in my signature to see what one looks like.

Not bad. It will be sad to see this one get a beat down from new Gateway and Asus offerings with similar specs but $600 cheaper.
-
Gateway is coming out with a dual GPU rig?
-
-
How can it have two graphics cards? Whats a 9400? Whats the difference? -
The 9400M is a chipset IGP that replaces the Intel PM45 chipset and provides a low power graphics option for when you don't need SLI performance. -
Thanks. I think I'm gonna have to make a thread for all my dumb questions.
So is the 9400M like the low end option? How much is it with the dual 280/260s? -
9400M is currently the best integrated graphics option available on a chipset.
No pricing yet on how much the GPUs cost.
The Official M17X Thread can be read here. The prices listed on page 1 are just guesses though. -

On the other hand, EQ II is seriously CPU bound and single threaded to boot. An engine update would rock.
If you play EQ II or RTS, the D900F would be a sick, sick monster. If I played EQ II like I play WoW, I'd go with a D900F. -
If I played EQ II I'd /wrists....and not just my own. ;þ

Note: Below is just a exagerration!
Hope that Intel will make say! QX9800 stock clocked at 3.4Ghz and overclockable to 4.5GHZ! or QQX9950 8 core edition stocked at 4.2GHZ and overclockable to 5.5GHZ! LOL!!! Maybe I should be working for Intel!! LOL!!!
