Earlier this year, we were very ambivalent about Adobe Premiere Elements 7. Now that Adobe Premiere Elements 8 has hit the market, are we in for more excitement, or just another uneven video editing experience? Find out in this review.

First impressions with the Premiere Elements 8 are very meh, but when you look at the screenshots I want you to note the odd distortion in the bottom of the screen, because a rendering error like this -- not in the project but in the application itself -- is fairly common.

I was hoping Adobe did something to improve it, but from this review it just seems likes its more the same. Too, bad, they could easily made it to fill the void of the old iMovie. I guess I have to wait and hope the next version of Sony Vegas Studio offers a little more of a friendlier interface, with some newer features, while still being powerful.

That's really the frustrating thing...why can't PC users have something as usable as iMovie? I've heard good things about the final release of Windows Live Movie Maker, that may be worth taking a look at. I know when I reviewed the beta it seemed like a great foundation for software with...uh...features.

The last version of Movie maker was so sparse I was turned off by ever using it, I do have the latest version installed, but I guess I should give it a chance before making a final judgement. But, still its hard to find something like good iMovie. All I ask for is something like iMovie, but with the power/feature set of like Vegas Studio, or even Premier Elements.

Very solid review, I agree with everything you had to say really.

My sister has been using Adobe Premier Elements 7 and recently upgraded to 8. Being used to iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and Premier Pro I have to say I was very disappointed with elements 8. After wiping the hard drive because of constant errors I installed XP Pro with latest graphics/drivers and it was still very sluggish.

There were also many errors especially when exporting a finished project. Adobe support has unfortunately been awful.
