Today we begin a new review series covering consumer-grade photo editor software. First on the chopping block is Adobe's entrant, Photoshop Elements 7. Does Elements 7 measure up to Photoshop's marquee reputation, or is it just a truncated version of a "real" photo editor? We shed some light in this review.
First impressions are the cruelest. Like my experience with Premiere Elements 7, Adobe doesn't have its wizards simplified quite enough for the average user but, despite too many abstracted features, Photoshop Elements 7 has a pretty solid photo/image editor lurking within.

I bought Elements 6 not long ago, specifically for the edit function. You can find lots of free editors on the net and I had been using Irfanview previously for simple tasks of cropping and resizing, but Elements provides a lot more options for editing. There are a lot of additional things you can do with Elements to improve photos, and the price is very good compared to the full Photoshop. I'm not a Photoshop expert but I'm not aware of any digital photo editing features that were left out of Elements.
I found Elements relatively easy to get into for simple tasks, and I bought a book off the net to help me with it. I haven't done any real complex editing yet though. I did find that Elements would just barely run on my old computer, but it runs fine on my new computer with faster processor and lots of ram.
For new users I recommend picking out some of their photos, make copies of them in a separate folder somewhere, and experiment with them. -
And the review would be where exactly?
