Acer to challenge HP in 2009
    [IMG]
Acer plans to introduce an 11.6-inch notebook in 2009 to compete with the 11.6-inch notebook HP is supposed to introduce around the same time. Acer is planning to ship nine million 10-inch netbooks in 2009 compared to HP's 3.5 million and Dell's/Lenovo's 1.2 - 1.3 million units.

Acer's bread-and-butter notebook in the next year will be their mainstream 16:9 15.6-inch notebooks; it plans to ship almost 11 million of them.

Lol, when just reading the title, I instantaneously thought Acer was challenging for total world market share domination from HP. They already surpassed Dell for #2, right?

Acer's own netbook, the Aspire One has already outsold the Asus EEE with thanks to its good bang for the buck and a feat I find impressive considering Asus pretty much invented the category. I'm sure they'll do well this year as well. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if ACER surpasses HP in sales in a couple of years. At the end of the day people like to pay less for same features and ACER has been good at making cheap machines.
