    Acer has introduced an Aspire notebook with 3D viewing technology. The Aspire 5738DG features a 15.6-inch display, Core 2 Duo processor, and Dolby surround sound. 3D visuals are enabled through a combination of a 3D screen, software, and special polarized glasses. The solution can also turn 2D images into 3D. The full specifications of the AS5738DG-6165 model are as follows:

    • Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2GHz processor
    • Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    • 15.6-inch LED-backlit display (1366x768)
    • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 graphics card w/ 512MB DDR3 memory
    • 4GB DDR2 RAM
    • 320GB 5400RPM hard drive
    • 802.11n wireless
    • 6-cell Li-ion battery (4400mAh)

    These displays need some sort of "support" for it to be 3D. Glasses I think they were...

    The 3D display should AFAIK be just a regular laptop LCD panel, but the difference is that it refreshes at 120Hz instead of the regular 60Hz. Even if not 3D is not your thing, it can surely benefit regular games.

    From what I can tell, it doesn't. Instead, there's some special kind of film coating they've put on the screen, which with some specialized software and polarized 3D glasses turns images into 3D. I think it's basically the same kind of 3D experience they do for movies tuned for a laptop setup.

    Alright, cut it out with the crappily low resolution. 1366x768 does not need to be the only choice here.

    Come to think of it...I think we finally are starting to see why LCD manufacturers are pushing for 16:9 so much. So that once all the laptops are designed around 16:9 screens, they can continue to screw us and reduce choice in the market.

    I agree, I much preferred 16:10 laptop screens. On my hold 15.4 inch notebook, I had 1920x1200 and loved it. Its a waste to have such low resolutions on large screens.
