The Acer Ferrari 5000 and Ferrari 1000 were announced today. The Ferrari 1000 is an ultraportable 12.1" screen notebook featuring the Turion X2 dual-core 64-bit processor while the Ferrari 5000 is a 15.4-inch desktop replacement style notebook with the Turion X2. The new Ferrari notebooks will sport a carbon fiber case as usual and will support the HD-DVD optical drive
Known specs for the Acer Ferrari 5000:
- Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2
- 15.4" screen
- 1.3 Megapixel web camera built-in
- Acer InviLik 802.11 a/b/g wireless
- Bluetooth 2.0
- Up to 160GB HD
- Choice between slot loading DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive or HD-DVD drive
- 5-in-1 media card reader built-in
- Carbon Fiber casing
- Acer VoIP Bluetooth phone bundled
The Ferrari 5000 will replace the currently available Ferrari 4000 series notebook which is a 15.4" notebook with a Turion processor and ATI X700 graphics card. One thing Acer did not disclose in their news press release is the type of graphics card the Ferrari 5000 will have, we'll assume they have something in there and it would likely be the ATI X1600 graphics card. It would be dissapointing for them to dub the Ferrari 5000 as a top of the line notebook and not include dedicated graphics.
Known specs for the Acer Ferrari 1000
- Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2
- 12.1" glossy widescreen
- Graphics: ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 chipset supporting up to 512MB Hypermemory
- Built-in webcam
- Acer InviLik 802.11 a/b/g wireless
- Bluetooth 2.0
- Weight: 3.75lbs
There's no indication from the Ferrari press release as to what the optical drive is on the Ferrari 1000, or if it has one even. No specifics on the particular speed Turion X2 processor being used on these notebooks either. Stop back for more information as it becomes available on these notebooks!

is the graphics card in the acer 1000 dedicated, or is it their new integrated gpu option?
-
Xpress I guess indicates integrated.
I hope the prices are reasonable, the 1000 looks like a nice machine, and I am a big fan of the scuderia I sure would like to carry one around to show off -
good to hear another 12" dedicated graphic cards.
Hoping many other brands will release 12" with dedicated graphic cards. -

Perhaps a 7900GTX? That will realy turn it into a real Ferrari...
j/k aside I think they have something more powerful than the x1600/7600 planned because there is already quite a lot of notebooks out there that uses these cards now, so showcasing an x1600 won't be nothing that special. I'm thinking more along the lines of 7900GS... Fingers crossed X
Imagine being the first to have 7900GS in a 15.4" notebook. It will sell in zillions... -
-
My fingers are still X.
I think its possible but requires to seperate the cpu & gpu at either sides of the laptop with independent cooling. Yeah it might be possible. When has the Ferrari ever been thin & light?
They are not exactly 1inch thick and 5.5lbs or less...
Its being very optimistic but you never know Acer might suprise us all and have the best selling notebook EVER.
The ATi X1600 uses 17W and the 7900GS uses 20W according to the thread below... Yes 3 watts difference so its definitely possible.

my dad wanted to buy me the 4000 for my graduation but I thought they were too heavy and did not have dual core characteristics. The 5000 and 1000 look very interesting and I might rethink the HP, Dell chioce.
BTW, where can you buy the Ferrari series besides ebay? -
I wouldn't mind the 5000 at all. Would like to know the GPU though and are all the hard drives 5400RPM? What is the screen resolution?
I like the idea of slot loading but I also want the HD DVD... oh and pricing.... -
What video card is in the 5000?
-
I was told ATI x1600 by a user at notebookforums.com, don't know where he found out though.
-
When are these notebooks supposed to be available? Other Turion X2 gaming laptops coming out soon?
-
Last year Acer showed off the Ferrari 4000 at Computex Taipei which is June 6th this year, so I'm guessing they'll have it on display there and for sale soon thereafter. The Acer Ferrari 4000 is available at many online places http://www.notebookreview.com/price...14977&productFamilyID=612&display=priceDetail so I guess the 5000 will be too.
-
shouldn't Acer be looking into partnering with Renault?
-
-
wow, exciting stuff, i like the look of the 12" notebook. But what is the ATI Radeon Xpress 1150? sounds like it's got a lot of MBs, but what can we expect from it?

The X1150 is a new chipset for the Turion X2 I believe; the next-gen of the Xpress chipset series.
5000 looks nice, I'd take a stab and estimate that it has an X1600. The previous Ferrari 4000 had ATI's high-performance midrange X700. The X1600 replaced the X700. -
My guess:
Mobility X1900

Does anyone know the estimate release date? I need to get a new notebook before I start college and hope that it will be out before late August.
-
does anybody know how thick this notebook will be? i'm hoping it will be at most 1.1", though that's unlikely. from the looks of it, it seems to be based off the Asus W5F, which is hte same as the M1210.
-
the xps 1210 isn't the w5f from what i've heard. it wasn't made by asus at all.
-
I hope this notebook sports TL60 chip. Even though x2 launched on May 21, I cant see a single system available on the market with TL60. This is worse than core duo. Atleast iMac was available in few days with 2ghz core duo and also acer laptops were sold in compusa
-
If you guys take a look here, you can see a better picture of the Ferrari 1000. I think it looks gorgeous. In fact, I can't wait until it comes available.
-
BTW, this notebook will have an integrated X300 core (based off information from the chipset), which is 30% faster then the Xpress 200m. This might just be the fastest IGP solution available.
-

Should definitely be the fastest integrated GPU on the market. I'm looking forward to see what it can do as far as hi-def video is concerned, since it isn't designed for gaming. -

The X1150 might have some more improements and tweaks over the 200m giving it decent performance. Although I dont know if it is better than the Nvidia 6150. -

Hm, I didn't know the specs were out for the X1100. Still based on the X300 eh? I was hoping for SM 3.0 to be integrated, but a 33% increase in performance would essentially make this as powerful as the Radeon X300. The X1100 should be very good at conserving power.
The Go6150 looks weak on paper, however on the desktop motherboards it is supposedly faster than the X200M. Haven't seen anything with regards to laptops. Probably wouldn't notice much of a difference between them, considering the performance is already low to begin with . . -
Ok. So I've found some more news and pictures of the Acer Ferrari 5000 and Ferrari 1000, which can been found here. Can anybody tell me how thick the Ferrari 1000 model is? I'm really hoping its 1.1" max in thickness, since it weighs only 3.75 lbs.
