Acer CULV Notebooks Launching in April
    [IMG]
Acer is planning to introduce several notebook computers based on Intel's Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) platform this April. The notebooks will be available with screen sizes ranging from 11.6 to 15 inches.

The CULV platform allows notebook makers to produce models with large screens and light weight, all for between $560 - $700. The aim behind the CULV platform is the same as it was with netbooks - provide essential functionality without extravagant features.

These notebooks look real interesting. I wonder if these would utiliize Nvidia's new Ion chipset? I'd buy one in a heart if it does.

Yup, just posted that. Thanks for the link.

It will be interesting to see how the CULV platform fits in. It is supposed to be like this:
    -Netbooks (low end)
    -CULV notebooks (mid-range)
    -ULV notebooks (high end)
And pricing will naturally reflect that.

The CULV platform might be more interesting if we didn't already have 'netbooks' with screens larger than 10 inches (netbook in quotes because a >10" screen technicall != netbook). I doubt Intel likes the larger-than-10" netbooks because they're treading on a category the CULV is supposed to cover.

CULV notebooks will undoubtedly be more expensive than netbooks, but they will have larger screens (some are supposed to be 15") and better hardware, including dual-core processors. We'll see what happens.

If they sell 11-13" CULV systems in the $500-$750 range I could see them replacing the netbook market entirely...in which case the Atom will end up being regulated to nettops and MIDs/Handhelds.

Preview Only 2.7lbs! Are they wrong when they say it has the Z520 and Z530 and not the new CULV platform?

the wild card on mobile internet market has to be apple +nvidia if they
acquire via. nvidia really needs to grow up as a man and lead technology semiconductor for once.

I doubt that CULV will replace netbooks completely, people will keep buying book sized, "take it anywhere" 9-10" netbooks.
Ill do, what i hope is that netbooks will become considerably cheaper when CULV notebooks start to spread :)
