Nice review. Let me ask plainly here- is the fan a deal-braker?

Yes. I wouldn't purchase this notebook as-is nor would I recommend it. It's a borderline tragedy because I like just about everything else about it (except maybe the price which I think is a little high regardless of how nice it is).

I would have never guessed this was an Acer by the aesthetics of it. Very, very nice.
The fan is a shame, though. Hopefully they release an updated model to this with a better fan. -
If the notebook runs cool, I'd imagine that Acer could release a patch to lower the fan's speeds during normal operation. Not a complete fix, but could possibly prevent it from being a dealbreaker.
Battery life seems a bit sub-par, though. -

1. Who makes that ultra-fast SSD? Isn't the read speed pushing the theoretical limit once transmission overheads are allowed for? However, the 4kQD32 results aren't class leading.
2. Is the 4GB RAM single channel module or a dual channel package?
Quiet but effective very thin fans are a technological challenge. Perhaps that's why Samsung put 2 fans into their 13" Series 9.

Yeah, but at that sort of price tag I'd expect one.

A dedicated GPU isn't available on an Ultrabook as noted, otherwise Acer couldn't market this as an Ultrabook and thus they likely wouldn't have developed in it the first place. As I mentioned in the review, this is an expensive product so ...
