Problem with the Acer is that it is set to be available in late August or September. I dont think the Dell even has a date.
MSI Wind and Eee 901/1000 will take a large share of the market by then. The Eee community is already large. You need a large community with this kind of stuff especially for the Linux version.

the dell mini looks like an HP by design. Which is not a bad thing.

This latest article on Engadget does state the Dell not having Fn keys....

Ya I guess you are right Red Eye. Here is a pic that does the keyboard more justice:

That actually looks quite a bit like an HP keyboard.
And the Fn keys - why? F5 and F6 are possibly the two most useful keyboard shortcuts for an internet browser. Though, I suppose it saves a full line of keys and Ctrl+R and Ctrl+L serve exactly the same purpose. Its an interesting decision for Dell to have made - lets see if it actually changes anything. I actually think it'll pay off, since that extra half inch for the touchpad will make the touchpad much more usable (unlike on the EEE and other subnotebooks). -

Not having that will be an inconvenience. XD

Looks like Acer Aspire One is the first Ultra notebook with proper sized right shift key. Typing on Eee is okay except for the right shift key. Its very unfortunate that rest are following Eee's keyboard design.
I never liked Dell keyboard-feel. When it comes to keyboard, I like Acer's more than Lenovo, HP, Compaq or Gateway's. (I am on 3rd Acer and none had any flex, none made loud noise, none were mushy or springy and all had just the right click feedback).
Oh!! the vertical resolution of 600 pixels is NOT enough for XP. We atleast need 768. Its still going to take several years to get VAIO TZ like machine in $400. -
A Ferrari doesn't come with a lifetime guarantee of not breaking down, ya? -

Hahutzy your totally right about the Thinkpads, amazingly reliable and probably the best built in the world. But the Thinkpads don't do the 1 trick the TZ can pull off, the twin drive configuration onboard. I am completely paranoid about HDD failure and having 2 OS's on the lappy on separate SSD and HDD bootable drives is a godsend to me. Also I believe to a certain extent good design and quality minimize failures at least in that you avoid latent design flaws like Apple's Powerbook LCD issues or Toshiba's class action lawsuits on A series laptops. That may be a bit of a loose argument but believe me if something bad is gonna happen its gonna happen to me just at the wrong moment. I'm bringing 2 or 3 lappys to the NYSB just in case.

This is pretty cool. It looks like you can add a harddisk to the 8GB SSD version of the Acer Aspire One. Pretty cool! not sure what it will do to weight and battery life but still a nice option. -

Yeah, I think the Dell E is looking to be a much better overall product than the Aspire one... Just my $0.02.
