ASUS to Intro Eee PC 'Seashell'
ASUS is planning to introduce a new netbook series in about a week - the Eee PC Seashell 1008HA. It will have an all-new design and appear to be much slimmer than previous Eee PCs. It will range in height from 0.70 to 1 inch (18-26 mm). It will weigh 2.4 pounds (1.1 kg) with a hard drive and have a 10-inch display. The 1008HA has typical netbook specifications including a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor. A unique feature of the 1008HA is that all of the ports are hidden behind flaps, giving the notebook a sleeker appearance. ASUS claims the 1008HA can get up to six hours of runtime on the included battery.

Finally, a EEE PC netbook with a regular size right shift key.
-
The extremely popular 1000HE has a normal right shift key.
-
Well, it's not switched around with the up arrow key like the others, but I think this 1008 model is the first ASUS netbook that doesn't have its right shift key sharing spaces with the up arrow key. -

small arrow keys on it (the 1008HA) but the shift key probably makes up for it as long as it has the multi touch gestures like the 1000H.
It may be thin and all but it just doesnt look that good to me.
The 1002HA is still the overall best IMO
Small, Thin, Light, a REAL HDD (no super slow small capacity SSD), and a nice touchpad.
The keyboard issue was never an issue for me as I just use autohotkey to remap the up arrow into a shift key so I basically have a normal size shift key that can be toggled into an up arrow on command.
Honestly Asus has enough EEE models now with these specs, and needs to start work on improoving the specs instead of the design.
> Dual Core Atom
> Higher Screen Resolution
Those are the two at the top of my list. I think the dual core cant happen due to restrictions from Intel, but they should be able to bump up the screen res if they wanted too. -
Yeah, pictures do the 1002HA no justice.
The whole package is so light, the speakers are great and the keyboard is decent. I'm looking into purchasing a 1000HE keyboard and try to see if it works. The multitouch gestures and the sheer size of the touchpad are awesome!
Fan noise is non-existant, boot times are snappy... Everything is great! The Archilles Heel has to be the battery life (compared to other netbooks). Although with EEECTL and the Screen brightness @10%, XP on Power Saving and WiFi off I can squeeze 5 hours 10 minutes. I played VBA + MP3's in the background the whole flight yesterday with 30% brightness, lasted 3 hours 50 minutes .
Not bad for 2-cell.
EDIT: I haven't recieved my SSD yet so those times are all with the 5400rpm 160GB HDD. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The 1002 has been replaced by the 1003HA and HAG which feature Atom N280's and chiclet keyboards. And EEE's with better processors are coming this fall when Intel introduces the Pinetrail processors.
-
Yeah, all of Asus' upcoming netbooks will have the chiclet keyboard, I think.
-
So this is like a refreshed eee S101?
Really ASUS? How many eees do you need? -
I like the idea of ports behind flaps - keeps out the dust, and the laptop looks sleeker too. I wish Thinkpads had rubber or plastic flaps to block the ports...

If the battery claim is true then that's fantastic given the weight. The only factor now is the price.
