    ASUS UL30Vt Announced
    [IMG]
ASUS has created a version of its popular UL30 thin-and-light featuring discrete graphics. The UL30Vt is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor which can be overclocked up to 33%. Discrete graphics come in the form of an Nvidia GeForce G210M 512MB, and is switchable to the integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD. Other features of the UL30Vt include Windows 7, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 13.3-inch glossy display (1366x768), HDMI, and up to a 500GB hard drive.
A release date and pricing information are not currently available, but the pricing should be somewhere north of the current UL30's $799 price.

If this thing retains the same BQ as the one reviewed here, it is a win.

Powerful 13 incher with LONG battery life.

This might be better than the Sony Z.

Better in what way? The Sony Z has a faster P9xxx processor.

In terms of value, I would say this Asus model is better than the Sony TT.

I think he may be referring to the GPU.

    GT210m > 9300

U30vt will be almost 1/2 the price, hopefully will have decent build quality, better GPU then the Z, so overall that's a winner. I would have gotten CW from Sony by now, but too heavy for 14" laptop and build quality is iffy.

I doubt it will have good build quality..I bet Z will be better built (and has way better LCD, assuming that UL30Vt uses the same LCD as UL30), and come with built-in optical drive - but of course, Z is way more expensive. Or, MBA, for that matter. Still, UL30Vt will be a great laptop, especially for the price.

I am bit concerned on the 4 cell battery on the spec sheet, though. Hopefully it won't be a standard.

If it had an Express card slot I'd be sold.

Wow, if this thing has good build quality and the battery life stays high (product page says 12 hours), this thing will be freakin amazing! I can't wait for a review. :D

Can't have everything in a 13". ;) Would have been cool though. Not that I use that slot.

I've been considering Sony VAIO Z, Acer Timeline 4810TG, HP dm3t and UL80VT. The Sony Z screen is quite flimsy & the 1600x900 resolution, while looking great on paper/screen, is very hard on the eyes in real life. The G210m is way better than the 9300m, Radeon 4330 or G105m used in each of the above laptops. I'm pretty much sold on the UL30VT but I'll bet the LCD quality screen will be quite poor, judging from reviews of the UL80VT. Hope I'm proved wrong when I get mine!

I am sure it will be a definitely bang for your buck notebook but to compare it to an upper line notebook like the Z is not a fair playing field. Yes the the 210m is better than the 9300 but the point of a 13" notebook is not for video performance and both are good enough for light gaming. The Z has a carbon fiber casing, much faster processor, blue-ray capability, larger ram capacity, higher resolution screen, and the price shows that.

On the bright side it is a sleek piece of machinery, and seems like it will blow the timeline 3810 out of the water (at least the model in the U.S. sans the 4330). The UL30vt will definitely be a big contender!

I will say this is better than the MBA. However, the Z is in a different category as it has an optical drive, a cpu that isn't from the LV or ULV category, and not to mention a body made out of pricey carbon fiber. My cousin just got the UL80V and while the specs are good and the price is right, the screen just can't compare to my Vaio TT. Something about the screen on the Asus is lacking. Hopefully the next update of the UL series includes a screen that is improved all around.
