Is it me or is this one of the ugliest laptops to come out from ASUS lately?
Nice review by the way ;)

They should make a sleek, slim, and powerful notebook alternative to MBP like they did for MBA.

ASUS doesn't produce the best-looking notebooks (in general), that much I agree on. The N55S looks pretty good in person. The classiest notebook they produced recently was the UX31 Zenbook. ;)

I agree on the design. Asus makes lots of good designs IMO. But this one... blah.

    hmm
i tried this on out and the keyboard is a pai to write upon.....

I had to put allota power into my fingers to actly tipe sth with it and this made it impossible to tipe quickly on it...
    i wouldnt buy it tbh,,,

if you want nice sound there are the XPS15 and 17 and the lenovo Ideapad y570 which come with comparably good speakers from JBL aswell as the XPS do..

imo this wasnt a nice throw from Asus´s side...

I ended up buying this lappy and like it. The keyboard is strange - offset to the left and old style keys, but you can get used to any keyboard after a week. The only thing missing is a backlit keyboard. The silver keys reflect light from the screen, so it is OK in the dark, but backlighting would help. The screen bezels are very wide/tall. They could get a larger screen on the same laptop. The speaker sound nice, but I wish this computer had SRS or some other surround effects other than "Sonic Master" that comes with the laptop.

After a couple of days, I can say that I really like the computer. Everything is very fast - video editing, opening and closing programs, multiple applications running at once...no problem. However, startup is not as fast as I had hoped - and I am thinking of getting a Crucial SSD - but I don't mind waiting for 6 months for the price to come down. My Samsung ran very hot on the bottom - this computer never gets even luke-warm and the fan blowing air out the left side is completely silent. I wish it did not have the piano black lid, but who really looks at the top of their lappy? This ASUS design does look upscale with the black and aluminum design - and not tacky.

I don't travel with my laptop, like I used to - so the massive AC adapter and external subwoofer don't bother me - but I would not want to travel with them. I paid about $1150 for this from BH Photo - w/ free shipping. It was supposed to come with Win 7 Home, but actually came with Win 7 Pro. The other laptops I was considering were the Samsung 7, Dell SPS, Sony and Lenovo - with similar components and pricing. I thought about trying to hold out until Win 8 was released or the prices dropped, but my 3 yr old Samsung X460 44G was giving me fits and I didn't want to risk it. Since I work on my laptop 10 hrs a day, I need a comfortable machine to work on and I think I picked the right one.

Thanks for the feedback and congrats on the new notebook. ASUS rarely hits a home run with their notebooks but this one is pretty close - at least a double (maybe a triple). I think I would get used to the keyboard if I used it every day ... it's certainly better than the one on my crap work laptop.

    Enjoy. :)
