    The base price seems a bit high considering the low end specs, screen and ports.

    Is there a compelling reason to chose this over a lower priced Vostro 3550 or the like?

    Hrm ... looks like a decent machine other than the screen res (personal taste here), but doesn't really look to be much of a "deal" per se. Am I missing something that makes it extra special somehow?

    True, it's not hard to find these specs for the money. ASUS includes a two-year warranty with this machine, which makes it worth a bit more.

    Yes the 1366x768 screen resolution is underwhelming (to put it lightly). Not too many 15.6" notebooks under $1,000 have better, but that doesn't make it right. 1600x900 should be standard on 15.6", 1920x1080 an option.
