ASUS Intros K-series Notebook, VX5 has 1TB SSD
    [IMG]
CeBIT 2009 - ASUSintroduced two new products: the Lamborghini VX5 and the K-series notebooks. The Lamborghini VX5 features the world's highest-density Solid State Disk (SSD) at 1TB. It also features and Intel Core 2 Quad processor, 16-inch display, and Nvidia GeForce GT 130M graphics card with 1GB GDDR3 memory. Naturally, it won't come cheap.

The K-series notebook is designed for multimedia entertainment on the go. It is claimed to have up to five hours on a six-cell battery. Other features include Altec Lansing speakers, "strategically placed heat vents that maintain a low palm rest temperature," and a 16:9 aspect ratio display.

According to the AMD Press Release announcing their new 40-nm cards the K-Series will be the first to use the new Mobility 4860.

Is that a true 1TB SSD or is it just 4 256GB SSD in RAID 0?

I like the specs, but I don't even think I want to see how much this will cost.

Is it me or does the design on the cover look vaguely familiar...?

Well the graphics aren't necessarily new. 130M is just a rebadge supposedly of the 9500.

Doubt a laptop like that will have more than 2 2.5" HDs, so either a new 1x1TB drive or 2x512GB SSDs, unless they have 4 1.8" 256GB drives...

    GT 130M (600/1500/800) is an OCed 9650M GT (550/1375/800).

OCZ's new 1TB SSD is 4x256 internal raid over a PCI-E 8x lane, so it's likely whatever is in this notebook is similar.

But laptops mostly don't even have 1TB magnetic storage, heck most don't have 500. Most SSDs are under 100. So what's going on here? Even if it is RAID that's still an impressive amount of memory to fit in a laptop.

There have been SSDs that have had more than 500GB for a little while now... BitMicro, Solidata, pureSilicon, A-Data, and STEC are a few of them. Of course price and availability have been the main limiting factors for mainstream use.

THe VX5 is based on the same/similar chassis as the G50 series. It'll house two 2.5" SATA HDDs.

A 1.8" 256GB fast SSD would be quite an accomplishment.
