Im excited... HD led backlighting! Must look beatiful. I hope it has a matte screen, too, and good battery life. This will be the first to compete against the M860ETU.
-
I'd hope it has a decent resolution... at least 1600 x 900
-
sorry about that but...
HECK YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
asus got a really nice laptop this time and i might get it.... i hope that they are "cheap" and arrive soon -
Having an illuminated keyboard is a huge plus for me. It does help give the G51 a slight edge over the NP8662 in terms of features.
-
-
WOW, keypad backliting, quadcore support, LED screen, this is quite the step up from G50vt.
Illuminated keyboard is awesome touch, personally on my M1730, the screen is bright enough to illuminated the keypad already, and gamers dont exactly need to look at the keyboard when playing, but make it easier. Having it is much better than not. I'd love to see some more photos of that laptop, especially in the dark.
If only they get rid of the glossy screen, then this is an irristable package. DDR3 isn't cheap atm, so dont mind that shortcome... -

Bah, backlit keyboards are for softies . . . real computer users have 100% blank mechanical Das Keyboards.
It does look like a nice computer, I agree. However, I won't buy an ASUS notebook until their notebook line looks somewhat alike. A lot of their models do not bear any resemblance to one another, and a lot jam a lot of features together into a design that looks rushed, which isn't something I care to support. -
^^ plus it's 16:9, so it's dead for me.
And yeah, real geek doesn't need backlit keyboard. Who needs to look at the keyboard to type? -
-
They did away with the 16:10 screen, bummer. A slight length/width shrink wouldn't hurt it either, it's about the size of a 17" notebook.
-
Looks like the same chassis design as the G50, but why White, yes it does look muck better than the G50 but White.
Specs look very, very good, nice upgrade over the G50 especially the Quad core support.
I wonder if BB will release a version of this, if they do I really hope the lightning pattern is gone.
Wonder when it's being released? -
i just gathered the information to post this here dang you chaz
looks good i may buy it if i sell my Whitebook -
Love most of the specs but...
7.2lbs with one hard drive
DDR2800 and only 4gb max ram support
1.35"-1.6" thick
Why is it only 4gb max if the PM45 chipset supports 8gb max?? -
it proably does support it ... typo or something
has support for 2 HD( get 2 SSD)
ddr2....man people really dont wanna stop making it -
All of those nice features make it sound like it won't quite be the budget price of the current G50vt's.
-
i think it said 1300-1500
-
Oddly enough, the website shows support for a 16" screen as well. Also mentions dual HDD support.
However, I can't help but wonder what Asus' designers were smoking when they came up with stuff like this.

Just as I'm pretty sure you can put 8GB in there, you can get it to work Its just not likely that Asus will be selling 8GB ram config in any default models -
I am glad I waited to order G50v now. This laptop looks like the right steps pretty much from G50, minus the 16-9 resolution. However, that can be ok, especially if Asus offers 1920x1080 res. In short, woot, hope it will come in around $1500 nicely loaded (4GB, 260, 320gb 7200, 1080p screen, backlit keybaord0.

I like backlit keyboards, they're shiny O_O Oooo shinnnyyyyy... >.>
Oha side note, it's nice Asus put a refresh to their gaming line ^_^ Arguably the 16:9 is a bit of a strange thing since not all games run on 16:9 resolutions, but I suppose that's the way the industry is going >.> -
I think the highest res will be 1600x900... Though that doesn't stop them putting 1920x1080 on it...

Am I alone in thinking the case is ugly and would prefer something more inconspicuous?
Love what I've read of the specs and features, but I have a feeling these are going to run several hundred dollars above my $ 1,200 USD price range... Bummer, as I have to buy a laptop this summer. -
Well the G series from Asus always did have peculiar casings and Ive never found them particularly pretty >.>

So that means a G72 is probably on its way.........i hope.
-
I've always enjoyed the slightly over the top looks of the G series . I've owned a G1S and a G50 and I'm seriously considering upgrading when this is released . . .
-

Absolutely i think the styling of this one is Much nicer then the current one.
-
Looks like something out of Transformers... just in time for the movie right?

no this could defeat a transformer!

As a graduate student, I'd be embarrassed to pull that out in class... or a coffee shop.
Yeah, I'd have to invest in a custom cover. -
Actually compared to it's predecessors, I don't think the G51 is that bad lol
-
Looks nice, but yet again I have to decline. This 16:9 plague is becoming more depressing then the current economy. As for the gaming in the dark, Ill agree with Chaz in that true gamers/geeks don't need illuminated keyboards. Although I do plan to try out my think light when my t400 arrives. Im wondering if it has a full num pad keyboard, as I do give kudos to HP for doing that in their new "HD" line up.
-
I don't mind 16:9, but if this is called a "gaming rig", then I don't know why they chose 16:9 as opposed to the more standard 16:10 used in most games.
16:9 is mostly used on laptops that label themselves "multimedia machines". -
I wish they'd do away with the funny colors and decals.
-
I think they want gamers to assert themselves rather than try to "blend in" with the public! lol
-
Hmm, not fashionable enough, I think I'll wait for the next Asus G series.
-
XBox 360's Official Programming Considerations for developers when it comes to aspect ratio. -
Yeah I know that consoles display 16:9 since current generation TVs are 16:9, but in terms of PC games, 16:10 is still a common aspect ratio.
Oh well, whatever suits them lol. I'm still living on 4:3 -
What's ironic is I'm sure this will be cheaper than systems with far fewer things I want. -
Hmm...
Intel quad-core processors for notebook.
Amazing!!!! -

Everyone else games in 16:9 except half of computer gamers, time for the minority to get over it.
The actual release lists 3 monitors and as before we had 3 monitors with one of them being 16:10......!?

First quad core system with an LED backlight though
REALLY nice hardware. I sort of wish I'd held out, as it's really what I was looking for (not that my Asus n80nv is bad or anything-it's built and runs great). -
I hope Asus release 14" notebook with Intel quad-core processors and powerful graphic card soon. it will be interesting...
-
Note sure if anyone has seen this before, but I was wondering for the longest time, what would the inside look like? Found this small snapshot on the web here, looks like it was given best choice awards at Computex 09. First image ive seen of the front of it. Glad to see its been given a plain black, instead of that eye popping orange of the G50 line.
Wish more high res photos were available. -
