I only had to read your pros and cons to find out it's not worth recommending. :p (but I did read the review :p)
It's a disappointing netbook from the looks of it. You summed it up quite nicely on the last page. I keep reading over and over lately how Asus' build quality seems to be on the decline, not only in their notebooks/netbooks but also their desktop motherboards. It's troubling. :(

I honestly believe the ONLY reason the Eee PC 1015b exists is because of the price tag. The Eee PC 1215B with AMD E-350 APU is MUCH more powerful than the 1015b but the 1215B retails for between $400 and $450 compared to the $290 price tag on the 1015b.

I agree. When people see a $2.." in front of the price, many are going to look past the specs. There are too many compromises with this notebook to recommend it.
The 1215b is a much better buy; 12" screen with 1366x768 resolution, 2GB of RAM, and the significantly better performing E-350.

As soon as I saw "abysmal performance" I thought "No thanks".

I can't understand why you would purchase this over the AO522, which is only $40 more.

How does this compare to the older N270 netbooks, though?

Soooo ... people would buy this solely because of the price? What does the amd cpu have to recommend it that an intel cpu does not have?

I would think a better IGP, and I think even against the newer Atom cpus.

I didn't even know that 1015B comes with the single core C-30, which is unfortunately the one that threadstarter got. The 1015B we have in SE Asian region only come with dual core C-50.

The C-50 has about the same performance as dual core Atom N550. Only instead of an abysmal Intel X3150, you have a somewhat decent ATI 6250. (3DMark scores follows.) This way you can at least play some games and watch some HD videos, unlike the overpriced Android and iPad devices.

And to put it into perspective:

Granted, a Zacate may be nicer with a marginally faster APU, and has 12" screen and everything, but it does take up slightly more space in your bag.

Not a surprising review, really; this kind of laptop, as others have said, exists simply for the price tag. It is not meant to be a serious business machine, but an ultra-low-end laptop for people who want something cheap and easy. For its target market, it is probably fine, but people who work on their computers should probably look elsewhere.

Well ... a dual core cpu (like the one Bad Cyborg documents) might make this a little more worth the money with the ATI gpu.

I am sure the performance would have been much more acceptable with the dual-core CPU. Single-core is not acceptable and has not been since 2006.

For what it's worth, this set manages to play Dead Space at low setting quite smoothly, and GTA:SA at high. Run Need For Speed:Most Wanted like butter. So think about it. 8 hour battery. Under 3lb. in weight. 320 gig hard drive. Low temperature. Full sized cursor keys just right for gaming.

It's not just probably fine for people who have be out in the field all day. It's almost perfect. Perfection would be Asus 1215B with E-450, which also weighs the same. Or for those who are against Taiwanese companies, you can go commie-style with Lenovo IdeaPad S205 which sports the same specs and same weight, albeit at slightly higher price.
