ASUS just can't get enough of their Eee PC line of netbooks, and today the company unveiled their newest Eee PC, the 1008HA. This 10-inch netbook takes a few elements from the thin and glossy ASUS S101, but so far ASUS hasn't announced full technical specs or the official MSRP. All we can really say at this point is that it looks nice.
The Eee PC 1008HA is a future product and is not being "launched" but meerly shown at the CeBIT show. This is essentially another Eee PC with a 10″ display and weighing less than 2.5 pounds. The addition of Draft-N Wi-Fi and 3G help make this an interesting way to stay connected while on the road. Full specs are not being released at this time beyond what is on the display card at the show (see below).

EEE
1. An overwhelmingly large line of products from AsusTek with myriad variations in style, capability and pricing. "Did you see the new EEE? Which one? There are hundreds."
2. An annoying noise. "The toddler kept screaming, producing a sharp annoying 'EEE' sound." -
-
I'm somewhat bored of seeing releases of EEEs. -
Looks nice, now I'm just waiting for the macbook air comparisons....
-
Wow is that a full right shift key that I see? From an ASUS??? Did they finally learn from the rest?!
This can potentially be the best netbook produced by them, the only way they can kill it is by giving it 3-4 hours of battery life. -
Looks pretty good...
-
Reminds me of the macbook air

-
macbook air semi clone!!!

Will this EEE arena be available to people who already have EEE's? And I wonder how good the battery life of this is. And why is Asus trying to push Wimax so much when it is in so few areas?
-
Amazing little laptop...hope the release price to be somewhat near the $450-ish...sighs...I was considering to get the eee 1000HE, but now that I see this one, I am not that sure anymore...this might have the Ion platform or at least the new board...we'll see...

Im getting tired of the sea-shell/clam-shell design and I'd like more chassis like the Dell Adamo or the Lenovo S10: flat, squared lines with rounded corners.
-
its kinda just more of the same. im interested about weather you will have to pay for the 3g though. im waiting for the tablet eee to come out before i upgrade mine.

I hope the battery life is still over 9.5 hours and the ram and HD are user upgradeable.
-
Looks awesome
-
Anyways, I have a feeling that asus will regret not going with the ion platform. Cause I think the ones that do have it will blow the others away. That's if the price is right of course. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The bottom, hard to upgrade?:
-
It's just a 3D mock-up and not a real machine. Even the ports are only plastic outlines of where they will go.

-
Well it does look nice that's for sure.
Yes it is one more iteration of roughly a zilion ones, but that simply gives you a lot of choices (it also makes it confusing i agree. Er I would like to buy a,er what was the variant again that I liked?)
As much as I like the very slim design, it probably won't give such a great battery life, and the great battery life is one of the things I like so much from my EEE 1000H.
Cheers

Why do they keep just releasing the same hardware, but in 20 different form factors? Am I the only one that stops reading the moment I hear atom 1.6ghz? Do we really need a 8.9", 9.5", 9.7", 9.9", 10.01"? And if we did have these sizes, there are some that would argue how the 9.9" just totally fit their life and they literally could not continue living if they were forced to use a 9.7". I'm all for a couple of form factors and a thin one, such as this, is one of them. But not every possible size.
"
Blue Steel? Ferrari? Le Tigre? They're the same look! Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
"
I am much more interested in a better chipset. High res screen. Better battery life. Better alignment on the dilithium crystals to hold warp 9.9 longer.... -

though I think this one will have a better chipset than the typical Atom 1.6 one can buy today, probably at least the G40 chipset...
And warp 9.9 hehe, Atom is more like impuls drive....

Anyone notice the half-sized up/down arrow keys? I think this would cause some inconvenience to many users and IMO just as bad as having a small right-shift key.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
You are right luckily i dont actually use my arrow keys much
-
They could easily shift the arrow keys down like every other notebook maker in the world.
And they could get rid of the bezel by putting in a bigger screen to go with the (presumably) bigger price tag.
Or is that in the Next Version -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well i guess you can say the S121 is the Daddy version so yeah...any they did go with a bigger screen
-
While the arrow keys look a bit awkward, I don't see how it can be any inconvenience at all, let alone just as bad as a right shift key. A small/misplaced right shift key is inconvenient because it may cause mistakes while touch typing. I can't see any reason how the arrow keys can cause an inconvenience ever. If anything it'll make the experience better because the large buttons will be easier to navigate.
-
A lot of older games(the ones that'll run on an EEE) work or work best with the arrow keys. A lot of people like to use arrows in place of mouse movement(for example when coding to skip between lines).
I don't use mine that often though. They're kind of relegated to the bottom right on the Gemstone Blue., they just about fit on. -
-
With coding you'd use them touch typing, in some cases. At least I did when I was at college.
-
With your pinky?

Nice vid i love the white i still think that the MSI X320 will be a better notebook though.
-
Do you think they will start using the 4500 integrated gpu soon?

The keyboard looks great. The Up and Down directional keys don't look that small, and I doubt they will be a problem.
For some reason, it looks like Asus decided to put a glossy screen on this model, rather than the much-preferable matte finish that's found on most of the 1000 models. -

loooks very nice imo
