So how much of an impact do you think this will really make in terms of AMD comp/laptop sales and such?

Is this the answer to Intel's i-UM processors?18 Watt TDP sounds pretty good.

Assuming their sales aren't artificially restricted by Intel as they've been in the past, this should be huge. Everything coming out about Zacate shows it's delivering great performance and extremely power efficient. And with Fusion combining the CPU and GPU on a single die, it makes for a cheaper solution for OEMs to purchase, design around, and deploy. Win all around.

It depends on the battery life and performance (except for the GPU, we know little about Bobcat), but this has a lot of potential because, for the first time in years (ever since the release of Conroe), AMD may actually have something better than Intel for a particular thermal profile. They've been competing almost entirely on price -- for every single one of their products, Intel has something faster, less power hungry or both (it's usually both) which forces AMD to sell at lower prices. With Ontario and Zacate, it's not obvious that this is the case: they may very well be competitive with Atom and the CULVs. We'll see soon enough.
