Its an extra card to provide usb3 support.
I see a great future for USB 3. Generally the successful new tech is the one which is the most compatible with the old stuff. Would be silly not to build on the success of USB 2.
Lightpeak as it stands (electrical) is likely to go the way of firewire and basically die. Having said that, optical is very interesting, so if lightpeak actually starts to be LIGHT it might be fine.
There might be a way to ninja an optical connection into a usb plug?
