Hi everyone, I just bought a Compaq V2000z and it came today. I went with the AMD Turion 64ML-34 (1.8GHz/1MB L2 Cache) and 1GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB). But when I went to My Computer, right click onto Properties. The info I got was 1.58GHz on the AMD processor and 896MB of RAM. Anybody have a expanation for this?! is this normal? a defect maybe? Does it have to do something with the 12 cell battery I have? Battery usage settings?? Thanks a lot!

The discrepancy in processor speed is most likely due to power-saving features. Trying setting your performance mode to "always on" and checking the speed again.

As for the RAM, that's because your ATI x200M graphcis card shares 128MB of system RAM.

Furthermore, this isn't really the right forum for this. "Hardware" would be the palce for this sort of question.

no, its because for some reason AMDs htt is 199(unless modified...), so 199*8 is your cpu speed.

Might be a good idea to lock off the ability for normal users to start new threads in this subforum. I know that vBulletin allows for such permission settings.

Thanks everyone for your help. Lowlymarine, you were right about it being a power saving feature. When I ran the laptop off of the battery, my cpu speed was 1.58GHz. But when I run the laptop with the charger, the speed changed to 1.79GHz. Thanks a lot!
