Hi - could anyone with a 6930G, 6935G or 6920G take a photo of the secondary drive bay? This and this thread suggesting the chassis can accomodate a second drive. This would open up the possibilty of a hybrid SSD + HDD system, which would be excellent! Though the first seems to have problems fitting a drive into the system.. so is it a 2.5" drive bay or a 1.8" drive bay?

This is the closest thing to a photo of the chassis, as it looks like Acer have pulled access to Service Manuals.

You mean clicking the movie/music/game icon in eAudio?
'Surround On' is diplayed at the bottom of the screen so I think it is activated.

When I run the 5.1 sound test in eAudio manangement, all 5 built in speakers (left right middle and both the 'rear' left right) are emitting sound but not the subwoofer..

I tried adjusting the natural base level under the dolby tab in playback device but I don't hear any diffrences in the bass...

I'm on vista and the installed realtek audio driver is the latest though.

Don't tell me the tuba cinebass booster is malfunction or the bass quality ain't that obvious?

I've never heard there was much bass effect. On 6935G I think there's not 5 speakers as the 8930g. I can see only 2 speakers on the top of the keyboard and one on the back of the notebook on my 6935G. I know the 8930G (much bigger) has 5.1 speakers but I'm not sure there's 5.1 on the 6935G. I think the 6935G has 2.1 speakers only.

In the audio manager I select "Built-in-Speakers". The sound is quite ok but not as good as a external spekers. But for a Notebook I think the sound is quite good anyway.

I guess that thread is related somewhat. I'me curious what this user is telling us about a Acer 6930G:

I was looking(my K key is dead too..) through the laptop and found a secondary Bay for sata hdd. APPARently it doesnt bloody fit a 2.5inch sata drive(i ripped one from the maxtor 4 mini) so what the hell is up with that? is there like a smaller HDD specifically designed for the acer? or do they just plain suck?

Is there a secondary HDD bay? It would sound like it's a 1.8" drive bay or a thin 2.5" bay. Can someone confirm if it exists or not. Wouldn't want to make a purchase decision based on misinformation. Would LUV to have a SSD+HDD system..

I don't see any room in mine for a hard drive, unless you remove the ODD.

This video of a 6930G claims 2x320GB's in the HDD slot to give 640GB.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6TYRpd3u48

Along with the previous two mentioned posts would suggest there is some room in there. Can anyone have a close look at HDD bay to see, and if so, please take a photo and describe what is possible for the rest of us who may want to purchase one of these?

I Had the exact same problem here friend, I even took it to the Acer Service Center in Bangkok thinking it was a lose wire connection/ hardware glitch. The Acer people told me that it was perfectly normal and that was the way it was meant to be.
If you want to see the effect the Tuba Cinebass has on the sound, go to your volume icon (in taskbar) rt click > select Playback Devices, rt click Speakers > Properties > Now go to the Levels Tab, and while you are playing some music, Raise & Lower the Level for the Internal Subwoofer. There you go, now you know that the Tuba is working. Cheers

My subwoofer was at 100% that's why I didn't notice any sound problem ;) Any way I've just try to low the sub when playing Terminator 2, well, it's much better with 100% subwoofer :p

By request: photo of the inside of a 6930G laptop, showing two hdd bays:

Yes, it will easily take a standard 2.5" HDD. The interface is SATA. I checked with a spare drive I had.

    Only one small problem though:

The cover has two largish plastic support struts poking up which means you can't reinstall the cover without breaking them off (they hit the drive). I'm not about to experiment with a client machine, but it looks to me like they're not gonna come off easily either. Maybe with a pair of pliers.

There are two versions of this 2nd HDD cover, one allows for the 2nd HDD to be present the other does not. I imagine those lugs are part of the difference between the two.

It's a 6930G, client machine so it's not mine. Not sure where I'd find the exact specs for this particular model. From building it, Intel chipset, nvidia 9600M video, realtek and nvidia sound, 320gb primary hdd, no secondary, 2.4ghz cpu, 3gb RAM, Intel wireless, Atheros LAN, Sayen webcam.

Used to be Vista Home Premium but it's now XP, and it was a bugger tracking down all the drivers.

I'm not overly fond of Acer machines, and the main reasons why are Acer's terrible driver download pages (although these have improved in recent months) and their lack of support for WinXP.

Personally, I prefer Vista since it runs much more stable and smooth compared to XP. But I believe someone in the Acer forum put together all the drivers for XP in a post.

Thx for the info techperson .

I really hope my laptop also has room for an extra HDD .

Sucks that i don't have a stupid screwdriver lying around to take a quick look .

Ah well , even if i had room i still would have waited untill SSD prices came down .

Hi! Two weeks ago I was thinking whether to buy Acer 6930g, 5735z, or Lenovo N500-they were all for the same price, give or take 10 £...I was almost 99% sure I will buy 6930g, because it was the prettiest (I was buying laptop for my sister in Germany!) but I went to some stores to try how both Acer's laptops "feel" and I was disappointed to see that keyboards were quite flimsy, with significant amount of flex in various area...So, I decided to go with Lenovo N500 and that machine is so firm, it has even better, sturdier keyboard than my Thinkpad R61e...If only Acer paid a little bit more attention to quality of keyboard area...

I've installed the last nVidia driver 185.81. No problem with display driver but I got a problem with the HDMI Audio Driver. It did a conflict with the ACER Audio Management. To solve this problem I've only reinstalled the previous HDMI Audio driver.

    From WP forum thread:

Update on the 2nd HDD bay cover. Rang Acer parts suppliers, first they were amused as to why the cover wouldn't fit after installing the 2nd HDD. After some research they found that there is actually a second lid as well. (Part number 42.AVB07.001) for those interested in buying one. Cost is $33.00[$AUD] and you can order it through the Acer parts reseller in your local city.

It's bit stupid to buy a laptop and they wouldn't supply you the cover. But oh well I ordered one, will update you all once I get it and install it.

Anyone know about if the 6930G dual hard drive is the same situation for 6920G and/or 6935G (since this is in 6935G thread, I assume you can buy the cover and it will work in the 6935G)?

Anyone else have problems not being able to monitor cpu temp? I've tried coretemp, hwmonitor ,and realtemp, all show the temp not changing (stuck at a certain temperature, which might be different when the computer is restarted.

I have updated to bios 1.1, but I didn't try to monitor cpu temperature before.. so I don't know if that's the cause, or something wrong with the heat sensors.

How does the 6935 compare with the 5935?

I'm buying a new notebook but it seems to me that the specs for both are quite similar except that the older 6935 has a slightly better gfx card then the newer 5935. Will either have any advantage over the other at let's say, making 3D models in Maya?

    Any thoughts?

The 6935 has a completely different layout to the 6930 images earlier in this thread. There are two covers on the bottom of the 6935, one very small one giving access to the TV tuner and Intel 5100 WiFi Cards, and one huge cover giving access to the CPU, GFX, Memory and a single HDD. There is absolutely no space for a second HDD :(

I will wait a few months and get the Crucial P256 SSD which will turn my 6935 into a rocket machine. 256Gb will be plenty for me as I only use it for movies & gaming. My movie library is stored on several external 1TB NAS drives so if I ever did want to travel with it (unlikely...) I just would copy over a few of my favourite movies.

I did an upgrade (i.e. not a fresh install) of Windows 7 and it's great. All the Acer apps work fine and boot times are bit quicker. I made a set of the Acer restore DVDs first though ;)

One word of warning though; the Acer bio-metric app throws you out into Windows randomly whilst watching movies or gaming in both Vista and Windows 7. I uninstaled it and all is now fine. This may also be an issue on other Acer models with bio-metrics. It took me a while to figure out what was going on though....

I love this machine. Both Left 4 Dead and CoD 4 (my current favourites) fly with most settings on high at 1366x768 (the native res of this model). Movies look flawless on my Panasonic AX200 projector via HDMI too.

It's seems that the GT 130M is a bit faster than the 9600M GT for about +15%
    See the benchmark HERE
Anyway, the 3 cell battery of the 5935G will not give you the opportunity to do a lot of things against the 8 cell battery of the 6935G...

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and also a proud owner of an Aspire 6935G which have served me well since I bought it end of 2008.

However, I have a question for you fellow owners.

I'm trying to install and run nvidia system tools (latest v6.02 from nvidia website) and I've run into a couple of problems. During installation of the app, I've found that it causes my laptop to hang. After several attempts and getting the app to install successfully, running any part of the app causes my laptop to hang as well. I've tried this with official nvidia drivers and modded drivers but still no luck.

So my question is, do any of you encounter this problem as well? Are there any solutions? I want to install nvidia system tools as I read it is a complete tool with good overclocking and monitoring utilities for nvidia hardware. I know there are other tools for these purposes but I just want to try it out. Too bad it's currently not working for me.

I'm currently using rivatuner for gpu software level overclocking and monitoring and bios flashing using nibitor and nvflash for hardware level overclocking.

P.S: Another question. For all owners currently on overclock(gpu), what is the maximum stable clock you have achieved(especially the gddr3 gpu memory clock) and using which driver and software? I'm a gaming performance freak and I'd like to squeeze every ounce of performance from this gpu regardless of the risks involved with overclocking(yes, I'm well aware of the risks :p ). I'm currently overclocking to 625MHz core/1550Mhz shaders/900Mhz memory using rivatuner. :D

Thanks in advance for your replies. :)

    Hi !

Fisrt let me say I am AMAZED by the quality of this laptop. I have always been an Acer critic, and I ended up buying this one!

But, in my everlasting quest for the extra fps (specially GTA4), I'm trying out OS and drivers before a final install decision.

    Can anyone assist me please?

    1 - I use DOX 185.85 in win7 64bit, was using 185.68 in 32bit version (.85 did not recognize)

Windows experience went from 5.8 to 5.2, fraps records slightly lower Fps (around 20-25 with high settings, was around 28-30 in 32bit) but I actually feel the game smoother. No dragging, stuttering... could it be me?

2 - I've installed Win7rc1 ultimate 64bit, but I am having a couple of issues on a fresh clean install.

epower does not launch, but on install it does brighten and dim the screen a bit, so it looks as it is doing something. When I try to open the program, it stays a long time doing nothing, end eventually shows a "not working" window. Worked perfet in 32bit. Tried multiple compatibility options.

empowering software does not launch, says " Sorry, operating system not supported" - and I've tried compatibility modes for Vista sp1 and plain Vista... (the driver folder says Vista SP1, and I did triple check I downloaded the Vista64bit driver from Acer website). I win7 32bit was the same deal. Not a big deal, but would be nice to have it working.

3 - Subwoorfer... can't get it to make a sound.

Anyways, all sort of input is warmly welcome! Thanks!

help needed from anyone who got technical knowledge here. I dropped my laptop yesterday and everything are fine until I on it again today, my laptop could not detect any oudio output and when I pointed the mouse pointer to the speaker icon on the bottom right (this time with X in red circle), it say: NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVISE IS INSTALLED. as I thought it's the driver error, I reinstall my audio driver 1,2 and 3 times but problem didn't solve.. help me :(

Any idea if all the current drivers Vista 32bit from acer can be used in Win7 32-bit? acer seems like they seldom update their drivers..

don't know about that, but i'm quite satisfied with acer warranty service. my problem solved! they said some of the chip on my motherboard broken and they replace it without asking single penny from me! its took only 3 days and my laptop are as good as new! :)

Hi ! This is a great review for a great PC (I have one too) ^^. I only have a question about the TV tuner: Is it for analog or (and) digital TV ?
I've searched on many website, but the information about that ain't the same... some said that it's for analog and digital, and others only talks about digital.
Did someone ever try the tuner ? (I know that's 2 questions XD )
