    IBM just announced it's getting out of the PC business and that it's selling out. What that means is that whoever buys that part of the business will want to increase profit margin on the thinkpad, and that means taking cost out of the product. It also means lower quality/reliability. It looks like IBM's stand at the top of the pile is about to fall. If you want a good thinkpad, better hurry before some 3rd party who could care less about reliability and quality buy them out.[ :(]

    I saw that article myself, and now I'm questioning whether I really want to purchase a thinkpad this Christmas. Support is a big concern of mine, and I'm afraid IBM's excellent technical support will take a nosedive and those who still own IMB products from the good 'ol days will have to pay the price.

    Yes, I think we'll see IBM ThinkPads continue to be made of course -- and I hope IBM does something creative with this sale of their PC business and doesn't sell it outright to Lenovo of China. Otherwise we'd lose a major innovative drive in the notebook industry.
