    http://www.itnews.com.au/News/87098,intel-to-launch-more-core-2-duos-in-late-december.aspx

Apparently December 28th is the launch date for a Chipzilla line up which should include five faster, lower energy consuming processors .

2.93GHz Core 2 Duo, dubbed the T9800, and also the 2GHz Core 2 Quad Q9000, the firm's first normal power quad-core processor for notebooks.

The chips will purportedly fetch US$530 and US$348 respectively (in bulk), pushing them more towards high-end and mainstream models.

There will also be T9550 (2.66) P9600 (2.66) and P8700 (I think, im not sure of the last three digits) at 2.54ghz released. The difference between the P8700 and the P9500 will be price and the P9500 will have more L2 cache.

How do you think a Q9000 would hold up against the X9100 in Crysis?

After reading the news article, it seems that the new 35W is energy efficient. I guess I shall be waiting for them then rather picking one up at the moment.

Would it work in a Asus C90S, outperform a e6600 which is what I have got and then allow an OC?

King of Interns, no it wouldn't.
The Q9000 uses Socket P for mobile CPUs, while your C90S runs on Socket T (LGA 775) for desktop CPUs.

I think I'll snag an ES T9800 off of Ebay for $400.

Even if a game is optimized for four cores, the 2.0Ghz Q9000 still won't outperform a 2.93Ghz Core 2 Duo, will it?

CPU usage varies from one game to another. If you'll compare WPrime scores, the Q9000 will edge ahead. And the Q9000 will be cheaper.

    Q9000 - how much cache ?
    2x3MB or 2x6MB ?

Wait, so what's the usual markup on these? Isn't US$530 and US$348 just the bulk price?

I thought there were 2 versions the yorkfield medium voltage 45nm LGA 775 Q9000 to be released on 28th December and then the Socket P version released early 2009 both to retail for same price at $348? Can someone verify if this is correct?

    Thanks

If you wait until april '09, you can get an even better T9900 at 3.06 GHz with the same FSB and Cache as the T9800.

Why wait though? i7 Calpella will launch only a few months after that.

And the 0.1 ghz boost won't be very noticable.

King, from the Wiki page on the subject:
Especially since the "desktop" Q9000 shares identical specs to the mobile/real one. I haven't seen a desktop CPU on FSB1066 in a while anyway.

    @Andy - looks like it'll be 2x3MB for L2 cache.

An eBay seller of the T9800s told me that the T9900 was only a test model, and has been canceled; whether or not he told me this to influence my T9800 purchase has yet to be determined.

interesting.....i wonder if a t9900 could stand up to the X9100? If so it might be better ot wait for that chip.

If they have the same specifications - clockspeed, cache, FSB - then they will perform the same. The only advantage of having an Extreme series processor is the ability to overclock them.

yeah but in reality these days you can overclock any processor with third party apps but core 2 extreme overclocking is alot safer/better though

Are you stable at this clock I can clock my e6600 in the C90 to 2.86 Ghz stable. 6 hours in Orthos small fft's. Any higher than 2.93 and it the stress test programme stops immediately! Was not because of heat as temp doesn't have time to even reach 70 degrees. I can get it all the way up to by 667 limit at just under 3ghz but under high stress such as crysis the computer restarts at anything over 2.93 with overclocking failing.
Any advice appreciated to get around this problem

There will be new chips for these laptop processors or can be installed on present laptops chipsets? Any manufacturer has listed new line of laptops so far?
