That's a good comparison really. But the author compared free software to commercial products and it's not too fair. It would be better to compare free and commercial products separately.

Also you didnt test TeamViewer , I've been using it a while since I had issues with x64 VNC drivers and have never looked back.

    +1 for teamviewer

also you say RDP requires a VPN for remote access which is not strictly true you just need to port forward 3899 and should you have lots of PC's at work then RDP through RDP.

They're in the same category, and they directly compete with each other. We had products on both sides of the aisle do quite well, and we had products on both sides of the aisle that did not do so well.

We only had so many "slots" in this review series, maybe if I can convince the editors to host another series of reviews on remote access software we'll see it in the list.

Not strictly true, I know. But without a VPN, remote access from abroad does present additional challenges (DHCP, forwarding, etc) that I do not necessarily think a consumer should need to deal with unless they want to.

    Really, UltraVNC was that bad?

It seems to work fine over my home network.

It runs especially well when the mirror driver is installed on XP.

You can also scale down the quality to speed things up.

However, I have had some issues with it being slow.

Hmm. I will have to take a look at LogMeINfree. Sounds good.

Well, if you are going to write another review about other remote access products, I would add Radmin Remote Administrator to the list.
