According to StorageReview.com, Seagate will announce their new Momentus 7200 RPM and 5400 RPM hard drives next week. The 7200 RPM drive will be offered in 40, 60, and 100GB capacities.

I really want this when it comes out. I love the speed of 7200 RPM, but I need a capacity higher than the 60GB that Hitachi offers. Hopefully these will be out soon. Just wanted to let people know.

hey, thanks for posting this info kf_man. that's quite a coup by Seagate to one up Toshiba. Toshiba has some 120GB hard drives on the way at some point in the future, i wonder when that will be...seems like they should make it soon so they can say their better at squeezing stuff on a disk even if they're not the fastest!

We shall see who really comes to the marketplace 1st with a 100GB 7200 notebook drive. I work in the disk drive industry and Seagate & WD announce product well before they are ready to produce them, sometimes 6-8 months before. Whereas Hitachi, Toshiba and Maxtor make their announcements when they are actually in production and have product in the warehouse. It could very well be that Toshiba or Hitachi actually ship units 1st and they might even be 120GB, but you can be sure when they announce the product is shipping.
