[H] Consumer took a look at the new Lenovo ThinkPad T60. The one they looked at had the following:

Correction 5/30: The T60 screen is SXGA+ not XGA as stated.

They called it the "future of mobile computing" and said it's a "a good buy." Am I missing something or can you can the same thing in a similar package from Asus (the W3J) and a few other brands. You can get far better specs for the same price in the W3J and that even includes a graphics card which the Lenovo does not.

I think at the beginning of that review it says the T60 is the 6th notebook they've reviewed, so you have to keep that in mind when looking at their claims.

I didn't read the article (if that's what it was), but you're right about the specs. You can certainly get a laptop with better specs for less money. However, the best qualities of the thinkpads are not listed in that chart: sturdy durable build, reinforced screens and rollcages, great keyboards, the best trackpoint, a thin, portable design, etc.

If the best specs are the #1 concern, a thinkpad is probably not the best choice (unless you've got money to throw away). However, they are built to withstand a lot of abuse and they are built to last. To me, that made it a very good buy.

you can get the same t60 with a ati X1300, dvdrw, and the 6 cell instead of 9 cell for $1250 after rebate. I think thats a great deal, and might be picking one up this week after going through the e1405 fiasco (terrible screen).
