Sounds like a solid alternative to the OLPC. I think it is cool that something like this will be available for the consumer market. Selling only to goverment and schools like the OLPC is good for the really poor countries and places in the world but with this new Asus alternative laptops will be available to alot of households around the world.

This will be good for many people who cannot afford a laptop and the families that don't dare give a $800+ laptop to their kids, the idea of selling OLPC to countries where there are many people who are not sure whether they will have food for tomorrow or not is not the best idea that one can think of.IMO even if the OLPC for poor countries would be brought to life, many units will end up in the black market. We should also take into the note the fact that the cost of maintenance and repairs for such a large number of OLPC's will be a killer.[sorry the last part was off-topic ]

I agree. A lot of households in the developing world that are considered middle class there will have trouble affording real laptops that cost $600+. Especially if they have 2 or more children that of course dont want to share :p
This should be a good alternative for young children to get to know computers, with their own system, at affordable prices.
