well i would like to know if i can do several things to my laptop. I would like to see if i could upgrade the cpu, and i would also like to replace the 16" screen with a 15" size is not an issue there is massive moding going on i just want to know if like the sockets/plugs will be the same ect. and that it will work. Also would it support blue ray drive (i know i need to find out if its ide or sata) and a 1080p screen? also could i upgrade the gpu? its a mxmII type i believe, and it does have a slot for the graphics card.

I'll assume this is a Dell.

You can probably upgrade your screen to a higher resolution one intended for the same model. You can't mix&match screens from different models without the engineering blueprints for both, and rewiring them.

    CPU can be upgraded

Bluray is possible IF you can find a replacement drive that matches the dimensions/interface of your current drive.

Hello I was bowsing and found this thread, I think I can help with the cpu if you haven't already figured it out yet.

Assuming oyu CAN remove the T5800 I suggest you go with the T7800.

It runs at 2.6 GHz which WILL make an improment in your computer.

There are two models available however, one will work and the other won't. keap an eye out for the SLAF6 it has a Socket P or Micro FC PGA which ever you reffer to, they are one and the same. the other takes a different socket so I won't even mention it.

You should be able to get one for about $200 on ebay, just make sure that you can return it just in case, It's always a gamble when the manufacturer might not want you to mess with their product. they may have some lame coding in the bios to prevent other cpu's to be installed, though unlikly I would never throw it past dell.

    Hope this helps!
