    Hi All

What sort of paint would i need to make the media buttons ( the front ones on the vostro 1500) matte black instead of tacky plastic silver.

    cheers

You know, that would be pretty cool looking...but, awfully difficult to implement. Getting paint to adhere to that surface without either chemically etching it or roughing it up with sandpaper is going to be next to impossible. Plus, you have the problem of keeping paint out of the little playback icons on the buttons...

    You could try Krylon Fusion

Or prep them and use another paint.

Pretty much any paint/technique that works on plastics will work.

    Do they come out easily???
If doing the buttons, why not do the whole thing?

    Also look at Alsa paints.
    The Crazers look awesome.

ItÂ’ll be awfully difficult not to paint over those transparent button symbols (Play , Pause, Stop etc..) . That is, if you want to keep them illuminating......

I would get an extra set from Dell first, even if you have to pay a few bucks. You would most likely loose all illumination if you painted them. I would start with Krylon Fusion if they are indeed plastic though.

Like I said, get an extra set first. Paint em, if it doesn't work out then don't put them in. Plus you'll save taking your lappy apart getting the original ones if you don't put them in.

FYI, you can take them out of the laptop I am pretty sure. I could get to them in my Inspiron 6000 no problem. You do have to take a bit of the notebook apart though.

    Good luck! :)

or use an automotive candy, they are translucent enough to see thru a couple coats

I would still agree a second set is a good idea tho
