My photo editing skills are 0 so i could really use some help from one of you pro editors. I'm trying to use this photo as a skin but i want the black background out so that i can add a different skin to it or behind it with having a big black square. I know if u take all the black background out there will be no picture because of the way it was made. Thats why i need some help. Or one of many reason why i need help![]()

Hm... I am no pro either, but if you reversed the black and white (made it negative) it could be easier to work with...

Just a fast edit to show what it would look like: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gallery/data/500/dog-2.png
I could take all the black out if I took the time, and better yet is rather than removing the black form this image and leaving transparency behind it would be to find the background you want it in and use a screen overlay, also for a laptop skin its going to have to have a color behind it anyways or design. -
Easiest way to do it is to give us the background you want on it.
For Example:
For you Photoshop nerds out there:
1. Find background image.
2. Paste image onto new layer. Use white layer as background.
3. Create channel.
4. Paste Dog pic in channel.
5. Create mask on background image.
6. Create selection from Dog pic.
7. On mask of background, with selection activated, paint black.
This gives the best image quality without the unpleasant aliasing caused by the jpg source image. This can be easily done with any background image, though the dark ones are best if you're using a white Dog. I was going to post it on a pink unicorn background, but you could barely see anything. -
Yea i'm going to put a background or skin on it. ViciousXUSMC how hard would it be to make the outline of the pic. black. Just the outline, like a drawing? Not saying i want u to take the time to do it or anything just wondering how hard it would be.

I like this background but i'm not sure it will look good with the pic. I have a post on one of your K9 websites asking for any good pics. Thats where i got this one. So hopefully i can get an even better pic. background

Hmm depends, for a general quality you could probably do it pretty easy with selection tools and some filters.
But for good quality doing it manually would be very time consuming.
I would play with things like
> Find Edges
> Use Selection tool and create paths then later use stroke path
> Use the shrink/expand selection and create a mask to drop the background and leave an outline
Then just manually fix it up from there.
Photoshop of course.
Also that link is broken.
Im out of here for now as usual I am at work and I just hit my deadline for freetime, got paper work to do but will stop back in later. -

Hope this helps.
First one is just the white with transparent background. Second is the same except with a thin black outline. Done with GIMP.
Both in PNG.
