I got this idea of a hybrid laptop concept that I just gotta throw out, while Windows 8 and convertibles are the rage.
Take a good, light laptop, of nice screen size, like the Samsung series 9, add in a Lenovo Yoga hinge, and touchscreen. Then take the innards (minus some battery), and squeeze them into a tablet of single-hand size, something like the nexus 7 or a little larger (thicker of course), slap on a larger screen like 8" 1280x720 by reducing the bezel (to maybe 12mm each side). Then make it into a dockable set up ala Asus Padphone, but this time, more like a Padbook. The dock is UNDERNEATH the keyboard. If there is space, put the reamining battery back into the docking laptop.
I can think of amazing usage for this. When standing up and walking around you can use the tablet, and when you sit down, dock it and use it as a full laptop. When the keyboard needs to get out of the way, fold it back. The advantage I think over current designs is that 1) when sitting down, due to much larger screen size, it is much easier to work. Also there is no issue of the screen/tablet portion being too heavy causing weight imbalance, which can be an issue if using it on a jerky vehicle. 2) When walking around, standing, etc the current 11.6" tablets are really unweildy.
I'm sure there are practical issues as to whether it is feasible, but I just wonder what do you think of this. Does this make sense to your lifestyle like it does to mine? Because to me if anyone makes a hybird like this, it is going to be a lifechanger.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I meant like a normal laptop, but below the physical keyboard is a detachable tablet with all the processing power in there. i.e. fully covered by the physical keyboard when docked. And the idea of the draw here is you can detach it into a single-hand holdable size like the nexus 7/ galaxy tab 7.7 etc. Yet full size 13/14 inch when docked.

So use a laptop as a shell that your would plug your tablet inside, and have a physical keyboard and larger screen, then when un-docked it is a smaller tablet again?
