just wondering, if i rub some 70% put isopropyl alcohol on my inspiron 1520 keyboard will that discolor the paint of the keyboard (silver)? what type of paint is it? i've read that you can use it to clean laptop keyboards however it also is used as a paint remover.

I would use a bit of mild soap and water if your cleaning your silver palmrest or white keys using a damp cloth. Isopropyl may damage the paint. Check your owners manual.

You know how to turn 70% to 50% don't ya? ;)

For ease of my brain sake. I get 99%. Then just dilute it with some water. I have been meaning to start using distilled water tho. But I have never had any adverse effects.

I doubt it will hurt your paint any, I have used that stuff on several computer surfaces in my life and never has it caused damage. But I guess it could if for some reason somebody used an alcohol soluble paint on a notebook.

I've had my Inspiron 1520 for 6 months now ... I've cleaned the keyboard daily with 90% rubbing alcohol - I hate using dirty keyboards.

The screen, I use a 50/50 mixture of alcohol/water and a microfiber towel (I do auto detailing so I have a lot of mf towels) and it works great with the glossy screen.

I've always cleaned my screen with isopropyl alcohol soaked tissues whitout problems. The same goes for the case. My laptop is a packard bell mv86-003. But that doesn't say much because the case(black) is unpainted.

I wash my laptop down with 95% isopropyl alcohol once a week for the past 6 months. I have noticed absolutely no discoloring or any damage on my dell E1505.
The alcohol does get the oil off of the keyboard which is nice, but unfortunately the oil builds back up after a few hours.

I do not use alcohol on my voodoo, cause its got a special paint job.
I use polish and a microfibre cloth to clean the surface.

one question why??? there are much better alternatives to using almost pure alcohol?? all i can say is be careful not to leave it on to long..imo i use a eagle one spray cleaner/wax on all my notebooks it cleans and leave a slight wax behind i love, use a microfiber towel with it.. safe 100% on plastics unlike pure alcohol..

Shouldn't hurt a thing. I use it to clean a lot of electronics. Gotta be careful when trying to clean PCBs though :p

You shouldnt be using polish to clean the surface and its perfectly fine to use alcohol on that paint. Its basically car paint, so use a mild degreaser or even car shampoo. The paint is very thin and too much polishing will be a problem. Lightly wax it afterwards to protect it

Because alcohol/water mix is an actual cleaner and eagle one wax as you dry is a spray wax for automotive paint. Wax as you dry has no cleaning elements at all and it doesnt leave slight wax behind, its leaves real wax.
