I have an old hp dv6345us, intel centrino core 2 duo, 1G RAM, 160 HD, I'm wondering if the HP logo light on the led is working as in the dv5 series or not.
Thanks

The HP light is not actually a light.
HP does the same thing as Apple does. They remove part of the reflective backing of the LCD, so that the backlight of the screen lights the little logo.
This is a very stupid idea because it dims the screen in the one spot. Sometimes the screens are sold with translucent backings, so the light naturally flows through the screen and into the plexiglas or whatever the logo is made out of.
Apple does the same thing with their mac symbol, its powered off the backlight as well

I agree with k-tron, i would not want that.

HP does NOT use the backlight to light the logo. It is a separate LED.
The DV5 and DV7 use LED's, not the backlight. -
no they dont. My friend has an Hp DV5 and the hp logo is powered directly off the backlight.

really, cause when i look at my friends dv5, the bottom left corner is significantly duller in a perfect rectangle, in the position where the hp logo is.
hmm, maybe it is a led panel behind, which is noticeable on the lcd itself.

i had a dv4t for a few days, and on the actual viewable LCD, you could see a slight glow in that spot when the monitor was sleeping, but the LEDs were still on. really irritating, it was especially visible with all the lights off.

Apple also uses the backlight (at least in the old macbooks)
we got a laser to go through the logo and show on the screen -
is really useful for me, I am glad to read it here.

it doesnt on my hp dv7. Mabey because you had an old one or some other reason.,

mine also has its own light source. if i close the lid then reopen it quickly the screen is off but the HP logo is still lit. DV5.

i'll settle it. i have my dv7 docked and hooked up to my external lcd. the dv7's panel is definitely OFF but the HP logo stays on forever...
