^^ well i have had my notebook for a few months now and was wondering is there some kind of spray to protect the keys from fading? cause some of the keys are fading and getting darker. is there anyway of preventing it?

I don't know a way of stopping it but maybe you should complain to the manufacturer and get a replacement keyboard sent out if it starts to bother you...

I had my previous laptop for just under 4 years of heavy 8+ hour programming a day use and the keyboard looks the same as the day I bought it.

I haven't tried anything with laptop keyboards, but with my Logitech G15's then when I first get them I take some clear coat to them, because the keys on those wear really easily.

I have one of those clear keyboard covers like ejl is talking about for my MBP, it's amazing and I barely notice that it's even there. As for the feel of it, you get used to it in time. You lose no visibility of the keys whatsoever.

I've never thought about this... but I just realized:

The reason my keyboard keys do not fade is that I use Cyrillic stickers (RU)! Thanks for reminding, I'm going to get another one for my new laptop :)

My keyboard is like new (used for almost 3 years, including games, even "mortal kombat" that really ruins the keyboard)

and where do you get those? and those clear plastic covers? cause every keyboard is different. unless i clear coat each key, which is not a problem i just need to know what to clear coat them in, something that is not to slippery or stickey, but it would be cool if it was gloss. hehe, so what is that clear coat called?

I've seen it in many places but I got mine from Brighton Beach, it's in Brooklyn - but I'm sure you can find it anywhere - even online.

I got transparent glossy stickers with yellow labels - because my keyboard is black.

    HEYAS SYN,
    I got a G15 that hasn't faded ... yet
How highly do you recommend clearing the keys? Also could you give a little how to? Never painted a keyb.

    Thanks :D

I highly recommend it. All I did was masked off the parts that I didn't want cleared, which was everything outside of the qwerty key area(I don't use the other keys enough to clear them) I didn't worry about masking between the keys, just shot some clear coat onto it and let it dry. Its pretty simple. Just let it dry all the way before you press the keys all the way down, and don't worry to much about clearing the sides of the keys, all you need to clear is the top of them.

I personally would use automotive clear coat, but I'm a professional painter and I have all the equipment to do so. For the average person they should be able to run down to wal-mart, and pick up some Krylon Fusion Clear Coat(All it is is a clear paint) and spray it on, I'd suggest practicing on something first if your new to painting. One tip about rattle can painting(Krylon Fusion) is to apply in thin coats, if you do thick coats then it will take much longer to dry, so do a very thin coat about every 30 seconds, and you should have it done in no time.
