Just curious but are there any designs/finishes or materials people would like to see in a notebook?

And modern day artists!
Interchangeable lids on the Dell's would be awesome! Switch according to your mood and fancy!

BAM? brushed aluminum metal finish?
maybe a ridged aluminum exterior, not too finely ridged... but enough to offer a balance between passive heat sink and design?... -
REAL carbon fiber
-
jcovelli, already been done... voodoo envy...

I want to see the engraved lids from the Japanese Vaio designs available here in the US.
With the Vaio logo a little more understated (or taken away altogether). So pretty! -
the reason carbon fiber isn't normally used, is because it would basically be a heat box.
but it could still be used as trim.. rather than this plastic look a-like stuff that is all around -
now... i do hear Gators, Crocs and Lizards and Reptiles are the new trend in the fashion... no more leopards and furs...
wonder if you can get a gator skin lid on a laptop... hmm.... -
Yes, that would be cool!!! I, would also like to see some *artwork* on some notebooks...not just graphical..but all types..Artists, etc..(repeating above) LOL

I would want to see more of a Touch LED lid..
Like touch-Lightbrite.
That would be amazing. -
i would like to see how a chrome plated notbook would look like.
-
i'm a huge fan of black/white/grey tattoo art.

jcovelli,
you are the man.
I knew the M133 was not real carbon fibre, but I could never get my explanation typed well. I have done some carbon fibre work on a kayak in our architecture materials class, and I knew that what the M133 had was definitely not the same as what I was using.
From what I know you can laser etch plastic and metal lids if you go to a place which has a laser cutter.
I know in our architecture shop we have a 15mw and variable 20-250mw laser cutters, and you can set them to etch files from autocad onto plastics or metal.
It would take some practice and probably a few test lids to get the power and speed of the laser perfect, but it would look awesome.
What I have always wanted to see was stainless diamondplate, it looks so sweet. I have some stainless diamondplate at home and it really looks nice when its polished. Unfortunately it weighs a good deal, but it would be awesome.
Other than that a clear laptop would be nice.
But than again clear plastics are generally weaker than solid colored plastics because of the acrylic substrate used for the plastic monomers to bond (something like that, I cant remember exactly how its done)

I think a bronze laptop that was starting to varnish would look interesting!
-
clear plastic laptop would be a little to fisher price for me. haha
-
Having put on a third party leather skin on my m1330, I think textured lids like leather would be nice.
-
Those special HP designs look sweet, lines and such, we need more of that.
-
You can duplicate brushed aluminum with paint. I can post the instructions if anyone is interested.
-
Uh, special edition designs by Banksy would be amazing. Mind you, it might be a little hypocritical of him.
-
Oooh...some retro 40's magazine cover graphics would be cool also!

That Vaio lid is stunning.
I'd love to see more subtle designs like that rather than the Dell art (nothing against the artists but I'm not feeling the designs)

I need 15 posts to post any url's.. sigh
Edit...
Lets try this now
Black Chrome?
-
man...those users must go thru alot of gloves and/or cleanin products. -
I like the finish on the Logitech G9 Precision grips. It doesn't attract 1000 fingerprints and it is tough. So I can smack people with my laptop when they **** me off!!!
-
-
Even better. if I could attach lazers to the USB ports. Pew Pew.

The whole chrome thing is a bit much...IMO =/

I like carbon fibre

Personally, though I'd neer want one, I want to see an ASUS with Zippo's "Spectrum" finish on it... It'd look ridiculous, but... ok, but nothing, I still think it'd be ridiculously cool.
TBH, I really like the idea of full-metal coated laptops... Maybe anodised titanium? -
Apple did a titanium iBook before. I think it had its wireless capability reduced because of it. Would be cool though. Though I am not so sure an all metal notebook is the best because it acts like a heatsink. I Powerbook would really burn me up if it touched bare skin.
-
True, guess you'd need internal insulation, a mad cooling design to cope with the insulation and an expresscard wifi... Kinda ruins the whole thing :/
-
Yeah, you have to have form AND function
-
I'd like to see more laser-etched laptops.
-
rubberized, with bullet hole designs, like on the left side of the logitech VX revolution.
-
Well then, the Lachesis..would be cool..sleek and smooth
Cin
