I have a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 Half Size Mini PCI-e... Can I buy a converter to make it a full size mini PCI-e then proceed to hook up a eGPU? Or do I need a converter at all?

    I have a dell xps 14z with HD3000 and GT 520M.

How are you going to buy a converter to make a half-sized slot into a larger one? The question makes no sense.

It's like asking if a converter will let you seat 6 people in a sedan like you would be able to if you had an SUV.

Full and half-sized mini-pci are almost identical. One is just longer than the other. If you have a full-sized slot, a half-sized card will always fit, sometimes just by itself, or sometimes requiring a little piece to lengthen it to reach the screw mounting holes. If you have a half-sized slot, a full-sized card will almost never fit, at least not without some modification or jury-rigging.

However, for what you are doing, you don't need anything. Make sure the connector for the e-gpu is half-sized (it should be) and you are good to go.
