do you always clean your notebook even if it is close to 2 years old? I always keep it clean weekly I just like it because I like glossy imprint finish on the cover lid and palm rest area. I also show off my roommate with his close to 3 year old Apple Macbook Pro.
-
nope matte finish i dont have finger prints or other stuff lol
-
i am pretty anal about all of my stuff. if u use it, please put it back where and how u found it. i wipe every speck or fingerprint i see on all of my laptops. i really really hate when ppl touch my friggin screen!

I've cleaned my old notebook (4 years and counting) at least every month. I wipe down my T500's palmrests, touchpad and keyboard with a water/alcohol mix every week or so. I'm kind of a neat freak though

p.s. - fellow neat freak here. -
I'm not a neat freak - you should see my room - but my notebook is one of the few things I keep impeccable. I regularly polish the lid, glossy palmrest, keyboard, and other commonly touched parts of the chassis with 91% rubbing alcohol. Still looks like the day I took it out of the box.
I also regularly wipe the screen down with store-bought LCD wipes. It's the worst part...if I can see any slight imperfection on this glossy display while it's completely off, I have to polish it. I know I'll never notice while the display is on, but it just bothers me. -
I wipe mine down with a diaper rag and Alcohol, on all surfaces, clean the screen with said rag, and about once every 3 months or so, I disassemble, and blow out dust in the cooling mechanism, remove the touch-pad for cleaning, and blow out the CD/DVD mechanism.
-
I noticed everyone didnt say how old is notebook....mine is 1 and half year old and still clean.....
-
My daily notebook is a 5 year-old Sony VAIO TR series but it still looks great because I treat it like a lady... and like a lady, it's sort of a fashion accessory so I like it looking good.
-
I clean mine nearly every week, booth; fans and screen + other parts
-
-
Me three! I clean my laptop every week since I have a dog in the house, I can't avoid the fur flying all over the place.
P.S. I read somewhere here in the forums this line, "99% of the time the cause of computer failure is the user. A computer is not an appliance, it's not a microwave or a television that you just plug in and think it's gonna work perfectly..." ( something like that) -
I keep mine clean & free of things that would not keep my lappy working at top performance.
A lappy is like a pet, treat it well...and it will be loyal to you for the time you own it!

I'm a neat freak when it comes to my computer. It's 7 months old now, but it looks brand new, save for a few scratches. I wipe it with my microfiber cloth 4-5 times every day; and once per week, I use some isopropyl alcohol to clean all the stubborn oils and sweat off; and twice a month, I go over the entire outside of my laptop (except the bottom cover and ports) with some wax, and make it SHINE.
Now I just need to get some scratch filler... -

I just got my G50Vt-X3, and I clean it like crazy. I use the included LCD Cleaning cloth and my father's spare glass cleaning cloth to polish it. No fingerprint, no dust at all
. This weekend I may use alcohol to clean the palmrest, and blow dust out of the keyboard with vacuum cleaner.
One question, how do I clean trackpad? It look like that some of my sweat found a bed on it. -

I always tell my friends when there finger is getting close
"DONT TOUCH THE SCREEN!"
Heh i cant stand to see TV's/Monitors with fingerprints hehe -
dont clean it as such.. but may be once in a while with a wet tissue
-
About the only solution is shutting the thing down and closing it!
-
Both of my laptops are business class, therefore little cleaning is needed. I do clean my dells glossy screen from time to time, but other then that is a dusting and Im done.
-
-
i clean my notebook once a week i go all out i buy 2 compressed cans, microfiber cloths,Windex, and rubbing alcohol..........
-
yes, i do clean the laptop, especially at the palm rest area. and for the lcd, if there a stain, dot of dust, i wipe it with wet cloth (spray by the lcd cleaning solution kit to the cloth)
cleaning kit use sorta like the picture below:
sometime im pretty fussy when seeing theres a stain on the lcd, immediately wipe it off without turning off the notebook.. should have avoid this :/ -

Yes, I do not like people to touch my screen I'd say.... HEY HANDS OFF!!
I'd use the microfibre cleaning cloth for my screen and it works well, all fingerprints, smudges salivas (Yuk I know, but some people just can't control their saliva mouth lol) and dust bunnies on my screen.
And, not only that but also its hardware. Fan, grilles, heatsinks, thermal paste etc. -
yes i clean it every time i take it to collage!!! so like 3 or 4 times a week. this super glossy thingy is not really sanitary so i clean it constantly with 70persent alcohol and its becomes back to factory state!!
-
I find myself 'polishing' my laptop on a daily basis - the fingerprints really stick out on this thing. Also because the keyboard is grey you can see dirt on it more than you would the black keyboards. And finally the screen is sooper glossy, so I need to keep cleaning that too X.x
-
I do some general cleaning everyday, like with a microfiber cloth.(only the external areas)
Once a week(Sundays), I do through cleaning after opening up my laptop!
+ also clean up the NC2000 on a weekly basis.
Including the internal weekly cleaning(defragging and stuff) -
i dont really clean my laptop. if i do its once every 2 or 3 months. and thats during school when i carry it around everywhere, during the summer it stays on my desk so i dont have a reason to clean it
-
Yes, except right now my laptop has become the family laptop as my dad doesn't bring his home from work during the day, and my mom's died.
But I still try to clean it routinely, even though I can't maintain the level of maintenance I would prefer. Some people just don't understand about fingerprints on screens and food over keyboards and washing hands and not leaving the vent against the carpet! Grrrrr.
But I'll be going to college soon. -
I rarely specifically clean my laptop - laziness wins out over spotlessness. As a result it's showing its age a bit (almost 2 years), mostly in the left palm rest, but externally it's still looking quite good except a few fingerprints on the non-fingerprint-magnet-but-not-fingerprintproof lid. I do try to minimize damage, keeping my hands clean and rarely eating near my computer. Probably the highest percentage of harm to the palmrest (by far the most worn area) has come from sweat forming on my hands when gaming in relatively warm locations - the combination of ambient heat plus the laptop's heat makes perspiration nearly inevitable.
The one area I do put some effort into is the screen - splotches on the screen annoy me. I don't clean it every week, but if I notice it's getting a bit messy I'll clean it with eyeglass cleaner (usually with the screen off so I can better assure it's clean). As for fans/vents - I probably should clean those out at some point, but so far undervolting has sufficed for keeping temperatures in check. -
I wipe it off when i feel it's dirty enough
I just opened my laptop up and cleaned out the vents for the first time I've had it and it seems to have cooled it off by a couple degrees -
I'm a fanatic about keeping my laptop clean. The one I have is glossy on the outside and inside so I try to keep fingerprints off it as much as possible. It also tends to be a dust magnet. I have a 5 year old daughter who doesn't seem to fully understand what "don't touch my screen" means. She is always pointing at something. Plus, she loves to press buttons and just for the heck of it. I set up a tv tray to keep to the side of my desk for anything I might be eating or drinking. A small child + food/drink + laptop could equal a disaster.

I rarely clean anything except the screen. However, when it gets dirty (fairly new laptop, so it hasn't become too dirty yet), I will clean it. I want it to look nice
-
I got a laptop used 2 months ago, but it looked new (I don't think the first person used it). I clean it religiously; microfibre cloth goes everywhere that this laptop does, and I use isopropyl alcohol every week or so. I'm currently in the process of replacing a failed video card, and took the opportunity to clean the easily-accessible insides as well.
Friends touching laptop with dirty fingers = bad. I make them wash their hands before using it. I don't think they like me for that. -
I honestly don't touch my notebook that often, if ever. It's been on my desk for the last two years, save for a few trips, as a desktop replacement. Has a keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected to it. Other than dust on the lid, it's been in pretty good condition. Add to the fact that I have the Invisible Shield on it.
-
I like to clean my notebook as often as I can, at least once a week. My Dell XPS M1530 often collects dust in its speaker holes, touch-capacitive media controls, and keyboard gaps so I find it necessary to clean it often.
Personally, I can get quite obsessive compulsive (in a perfectionist way) with notebook cleaning. I even saved up and purchased the Sony Vaio PC cleaning kit (VGP-CG100) even if I'm using a Dell. Just for those cleaning addicts out there, this cleaning kit is probably the best for notebooks. Believe it or not, it even has a handbook manual on how to clean your notebook (which was pretty over-the-top I think).
Anyways, for those interested, you can find a review and detailed pics of the cleaning kit here.
Even though it's quite costly for a cleaning kit, I think it was worth every bit. It has all the major tools you need to keep your investment clean. -
I've been cleaning it lately, wiping it down with that Radioshack spray so it feels like it has a nice finish too it..
-
always always cleaning it after i use it wiping off fingerprints off the cover and the keyboard.
laptops get glossier and glossier every time -
Since I got my latest laptop, I haven't opened it at all.. I just get a moist sponge and wipe the whole outsides for food scraps, etc.
-
I clean my laptop keyboard very often. I also clean the fan once a year or so.

I clean my screen every 2 weeks or so.
For some reason there is always dust on my screen.
I wonder if this happens with glossy screens?
Also I clean out the dust inside the notebook every time I open it. -
I think attracting dust is more common with the glossy screen. My laptop screen seems to stay that way and the monitor for my desktop doesn't.
-
I wipe my laptop daily!!!!
-
Because the laptop I have is on a 2 year lease before I have to give it back and I am not allowed to open it. The only thing I clean is the registry
-
Im too lazy.. my laptop is very stylish and stuff but the fact that bread and other kinds of food is all over it, makes its less stylish.
-
I have this bad habit, i always eat at my laptop, and afther i forget/too lazy to clean it up lol.
I'm going to clean it in like a week or so and open it up for dust. -
I make it a point to clean my laptop once a week. Since I use it in the living room where it gets mighty dusty (along with a curious cat who roams the room), I take a can of compressed air and blow out all the vents and the keyboard and then I take some monitor screen wipes to my laptop screen and then a microfiber cloth to the rest of the machine to muff out fingerprints and to wipe off excess dust and cat hair.
I was taught at a very early age to take care of my stuff. I'm not a rich person who can replace things at the drop of a hat so i try to keep things in working order because in the long run, they'll last a long time. -
not really for me....maybe for my new HP dv7 tho.... with the ol' Dell Inspiron E1505 it didn't catch dust or fingerprints very much, always look pretty clean (key word LOOKED) but with the HP I got the color matching keyboard (expresso black) and I noticed it catches finger prints and dust alot more noticably then the Dell, so maybe I will clean this one a little more...it's definately more eye catching than the dell so I would like to keep it looking eye-catching
do you always clean your notebook?
