I think that you can have a custom skin made with tha exact pattern it will not be a fabric, it will be an image of that material on a vinyl sticker. Their are a few custom skin places around, i think skinit is one, but I cannot remember the names of others

If you are to use an actual piece of fabric, you would need to have the fabric post tensioned before gluing it to the laptop. If you do no do this, the fabric will stretch afterwards from use, and it will look bad.

    sorry, I meant pre tensioned.
Just make sure the fabric is already stretched before gluing, so that the fabric does not stretch later on.

hey i got another question you know the kinda of glue/tape that are on custom laptop skins is there a way they sell that? like on this video, the gray bottom part that sticks to the laptop, at 3 min or this one at 32 sec but its white

i can use this kind of attachment instead of double sided tape

i dont know much about this sort of stuff but it sort of looks like this
    http://www.handyhippo.co.uk/p707-Double-Sided-A4-Adhesive-Sheets.html

i also dont think its a seperate sheet of tape, i think its a type of glue they add to it, and i dont think fabric will stick to take well enough, but you can give it a try. i think the best bet would be to get the fabric stretched over a hard material then stick it to the laptop.i think thats what they do when they stretch fabric over chair seats etc.

id also suggest going to a sign shop for the sticky material sheet. my uncle owns a sign shop, and uses that sort of material for decals on cars, windows etc. double sided tape i think wont work because its not wide enough and wont cover the whole laptop area, so youll get places that are higher than others. it might also peel since its not flush on the edges.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIcq_qq3m7c

at about 2 minutes, you can see how they stretch that material (or fabric) over a hard piece so it doesnt stretch when someone sits on it. that would be your best bet, but use something thinner than wood.

i still think the best thing to do would be to get it on a vinyl sticker, as k-tron suggested, but if you want fabric, itll be alot harder, and might not be as nice looking.

If you are going to use an actual fabric, you may need to go to an upholstery shop and ask them what kind of fabric tape to get. I really dont know the names of any. I am sure that if you can find a place which does custom upholstery, they can spare you a few inches of tape for your project.

You need to use a special tape, because normal tapes will not stick well to fabric

If you were going with fabric I'd imagine you'd use fabric glue... which you can get in a spray can. www.decalgirl.com is well known for their skins and they make custom at a reasonable price

ok well a sign shop is a shop that makes well, signs. my uncle owns one and makes signs for businesses and also personal use. he makes neon signs, banners and stickers that would go on cars and etc.

i actually know of a few, but dont know the name off the top of my head.

im sure a look in your local yellow pages will find one. they sould have the material you need, and maybe even print off the design onto the sticker sheet.

Hey V I think your on to something. I read your post a few days ago and have tried to figure it out. Here's my idea. The fabric is easy for the most part. Burberry will not sell sell you fabric. But you can google "Burberry fabic by the yard" and may be add "car" in their too. You will get tons of places that sell knot-off, some better than others. I can't say which is the best but you get what you pay for. Plus if they make nice quality rides then you should be good just check the website for pics of cars and ask them to send you pic of the fabric.

Now my wife has an HP TX 1000 tablet pc. I though to myself if I can get a frame very very thin made of strong plasic or may be metal or cardboard. Then I would rap it and pull it over the screen like you do a tv in the head rest of a car then sew the bottom part up if done right It would look HOT!

The glue idea may work even better I just don't like glue. It's not for giving.

Tell me want you think because I really want to try this

    OP, couple of quick questions...

    1) fabric? are you sure? it's gonna be a pain to keep clean and it does wonders in absorbing hand oils and keeping it... hence making it more attractive to dirt and stain...

    2) adhesives... yes there are wide varieties of fabric glues you can use... but depending on your fabric, it can seep through and change the color of the fabric. secondly, how warm does it get at those areas?
i have a studio 17 and i noticed that when i slapped on a 7200rpm drive, which is located at the palmrest, it gets quite warm... now normally, under no pressure or activity, it's fine, so it'll warm up the adhesive a bit... but by keeping constant pressure, it tend to loosen and slide...

i know this becuase i use little stickys at my wsad keys for gaming, so my finger can find it by touch... and on my old laptop, which got pretty warm, i had to replace the stickys every week or two...

    just some thoughts...

you may also want to get some form of screen protection... you never know, thems burberry fabrics can be quite abrasive...

oh, and one final note, burberry's got a trademark/copyright on their design... they may not be quite fond of someone re-creating it... well, it is for single use, not for re-sale... but meh...

    Hi,
I just read your post. I also love Burberry (I like the gray check) and I had a skin made. I got it at skinit.com for my sony tz. If you would like I'll take a pic. when I get home and post it. Later I created a better one so I will have to wait until mine gets a little banged up to get a new one. The first one I did was good but it got a little grainy when I stretched the .jpg I created. I think it looks good I also made one for my cell phone (the front has come off but I still have it for the back) this is the new design. I did not add the knight on my laptop and the bottom part (you can't see it because I had to take the cover off to take the picture) says BURBERRY London from a tag... My laptop is just that check no lables or pictures.

i'm sorry, but fabric is just going to be a bad idea. I'm thinking *fire*. You can try a laptop skin, like the poster said above. Don't get a sticker, after a while, the friction from your palms will just wear away the patterns.

And, just off the record, since when did plaid become fashionable? Last time I checked, Al was always laughed at by Tim for wearing plaid.

plaid is HOT now... glen plaids, burberry plaids (being a classic) and any form of authentic retro plaids are very hot in the fashion industry...

this season, spring 2009 is prolly when it's being replaced with another trend.

    Burberry is timless!!! :)
Also what gave me the idea, not to mention I love Burberry, was seeing a special edition TZ (think it was a model from china) that kind of looked like the burberry check and I thought it looked cool.

It hold up nice, but I kind of want it to start to peel because I made one more closer to my bag pattern (darker check) all an all I think it looks cool and one of a kind
