I second what K-TRON says. You are at a point in the laptop's "life" that you have nothing to lose by taking it apart. Again, e-bay seems to be the best place to search for scrapped 640m models. Be careful with the battery!

You can probably find a youtube or on-line video taking you through the steps on how to disassemble your model.

Don't know if its been mentioned, but I would contact Dell about this. I bet they'd get a kick out of it, especially seeing how it still works.
Who knows, maybe if they are feeling generous, they'd send you a replacement for free just for the advertising they could come up with.

More than the survival of actual laptop, I wonder how did the PAPER Microsoft Windows sticker survive this much obliteration.. as the paper burns..

And it seems it was in the eye of the "hurricane" pretty much!

Looking at the picture closer now, I think i would chuck that laptop out of the window since the state of battery is pretty much "Get out of there, she is gonna blow!".. Glad you two are both safe n sound! Batteries DO tend to explode at high temperatures. (various cases with mobile phones for example)

Did the hard drive work after all this ?

2 he spends way too much on my gear.

What's unfair is I will accept an apology from her and that's the end of it.

But if places were reversed, she won't accept my apology UNTIL I buy her a new laptop.

I'm thoroughly amazed that it's still running but not as much as I would've been a few years ago (when I didn't know as much about laptops). People tend to forget that CPUs (usually maximum is around 95C-100C) and GPUs (usually around 57-70) can sustain exceptionally high temperatures when compared to other aspects of a computer. The HDD that I'm using averages temperatures between 35C-40C. Dell definitely makes some physically durable laptops, even though at times they weren't the most stylish laptops on the market.

Double standard, you gotta live with it. Respect it and start cheating as soon as you can.

    Lol! Thanks for the laugh!

Personally, I'd just leave it as is and consider the holes as extra venting. Think of it as...using fire...to beat potential over heating problems...

Reason my gf and tech don't mix well:

She literally throws her laptop when she's pissed at it.

I'm surprised that the Dell could actually survive being cooked. There should be a new Youtube channel that shows laptops being cooked.

I minored in chemistry and honestly, all we used acetone for was a solvent, but perhaps that was pure acetone.
