hm, always with me, so always at least in the backpack. else, on my lap, in the hand, on some desk. i'm djing with it, programming at the club/bar their software, browsing the web everywhere, doing stuff with it at home (but there the pc gets dominant.. thanks to the homeserver, data is always in sync)..

just everything from work to private use. it's a tablet so it's very flexible.

It spends alot of it's time on my desk. Otherwise, it's in my backpack going to and from class, on my lap in class or laying with me on the bed playing movies for me. :)

Mine spends most of the time on the desk but then i thought to myself it beats the purpose of it being portable if its going to spend 90% of its life on my desk y have a laptop....might as well buy a desktop correct me if im wrong what is your input on this............

a laptop is much more ergonomic and u have the choice to move it around freely. plus gaming on a laptop just feels so much better than a desktop, to me. i guess cuz i've been gamin on them for the last 10+ years. XPS has been good to me, but my next laptop is gonna be a 280m SLI-equipped beast. :)

On the dining-room table when in use; in a cabinet drawer when not in use. Occasionally takes trips to the in-laws in a backpack, where it also sits on the dining-room table when in use. :D

When I'm at home, usually at my desk on top of my Zalman. Occasionally I will put it on my lap while sitting in bed or on the sofa, but I make sure that enough air is always available. When not at home, it's almost always with me. I carry it in my backpack and my backpack is always with me. Whenever I have to be away from it, my Kensington lock comes into play. So, fourth option for me. :p

all wrong except for the "choice to move it around freely". a desktop has much more flexibility for ergonomics. larger keyboards, deep keys, ergonomic keyboards, flexible placed screens etc...

then you say, you can plug that all into a notebook.

then i say, yes, but you pay more for it :)

of course you can use a notebook exactly in all cases you can use a desktop. doesn't mean it's best for it.

but if you want some flexibilty, it may be worth the additional cost over a desktop. but that's the only gain you have from a laptop. portability. and no gamer notebook really is portable :) (but it's fine for occasional lanparties and such :))

All true; for my part, I am stuck with only notebooks, notwithstanding that it spends most of it's time on my desk, because (a) spacious apartments do not exist in NYC, unless you're filthy rich, and (b) my better half has a "phobia" about electronic bits-n-pieces lying around cluttering up the visual space - she abhors the thought of having a computer monitor being constantly visible, particularly if/when guests come over. As such, I do need the flexibility to pop it closed with a minimum of fuss and put it away where it'll be safe.

Additionally, a notebook is just a safer way to go when you've got a 4-5 y.o. in the house - a desktop tower just has too many inviting places in which a PBJ could be stuck by an enterprising youngster.

All in all, I would prefer to have a desktop, particularly because of the greater ability to customize/upgrade it; unfortunately, I cannot.

all true as well. bad luck with your better half in computing matters, then.. :(

i just placed a fullhd beamer, 2m projection, a media center, no ordinary tv, two laptops, all lights with leds, a home server, and soon another pc + a 3m beamer + 24" tft into my appartment.

i knew from the start, i have to win this war.. :) if she'd won.. urgh :)

in the end, she's happy. big screen to watch her dvds on :)

ergonomic might've been the wrong word to use, but u know what i mean. plus i am just bias towards laptops vs desktops cuz that's been my preference for the last 10+ years. especially with today's laptops, they can do everything a desktop system can do in a smaller, more organized system. maybe that's why i used the word ergonomic. i am just way more productive when usin my laptop. maybe thats cuz i don't really have to deal with multiple spreadsheets and things of that nature. that's when a desktop with multi-monitors would have to come into play.

me, myself, i never got how anyone could complain about the size and weight of a laptop. i've lugged around much heavier things in my life, so even a 10+ lb gaming laptop isn't anything to me. when the first 17" XPS laptops came out, i didn't even use a backpack or bag to lug my system around. i just wrapped the cord up and carried it with my laptop in 1 hand. put the mouse in my pocket and we're good to go.

u are correct in yur post tho. :)

p.s. @ shyster: sucky situation with the other half. i would never let my gf get in the way of all my electronic goodies. i would tell her, "i deal with yur period and mood swings, u deal with my beautiful shinies!!!" :D

whlle i agree with you, i can just say i had the chance, now about 2 years ago to get to a cheap quadcore with 24" screen. since then, i've changed my mind. i still love my notebook(s), but a desktop is just as wow to work with. it's different. but it's like "standing up after sitting". it's a sudden "now i have space to work.

but of course, most of this can be accomplished with a notebook in desktop-abuse. still, the performance/price ratio and the actual performance that you can get in a desktop is much better than in a laptop, and that difference rocks :) the quadcore is the first system i've ever used that just feels like it's always reactive and fast.. (only together with the ssd raid0 it has :)).

and no, i couldn't stand bigger laptops. they're not portable. they're not in the flexibility of standing around chatting with some friends in the club, having the notebook in my hand like a phone. then, we talk about something and i can just flip it up, google it, what ever.. just having it allways with me, no matter when, where. not possible with some 17" gamer-laptop :)

but to each it's own... :)

My VAIO is almost always in its semi-hard zippered case which is inside my small Ogio Mono book bag... especially in the summer months when I'm not using it for school. I haven't used it much lately but I to take it with me to work every day... just in case.

Last time I was in a ... erm ... bar/club type of place I saw a guy sitting on a laptop taking notes on how people were acting and what was going on. Must have been some sort of psychology major or something doing work.

My 1520 sits on my desk. I use it for games and virtual machines. The only time it really leaves is when I have to give a demonstration with the virtual machines.

    The netbook goes to class

Now on summer break, I dont even use my 1520 and the netbook sits on my lap on the couch and I watch TV.

There are 4 locations my thinkpad could be. On my desk at home, on my desk at work, on my lap in my recliner or in my bag. Sadly the dell is long gone and yes I do take my laptop everywhere. Small bag and can easily go with me in the Jeep.

A lot of the time mine is on my desk sitting on a cool mat with my other monitor hooked into it. Other times it's by the big screen playing HD movies for me. It makes a trip to classes every day in its bag and has its own docking station in my truck for those times when I need a nicotine fix and want to cruise the net.
