Well, I bought this Acer Aspire V17 Nitro (VN7-791G) back in 2014 (If I'm remembering correctly), it's holding and serving me pretty well even being enormous and heavy hahaha.

But there's one problem, it's back cover painting it's starting to peel off, although i don't mind that much I would like to give it a new life so I need recommendations on painting, how to get that old paint/texture off and etc.

One thing that I found pretty neat it's that the cover is metal, not plastic, and it's not ugly at all, it's all brushed very cool.

Here's some photos, I would appreciate any help! Thanks! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Sand with 120grit/200grit depending on how thin the paint is (you can use fine sandpaper on thick paint but it just takes yonks longer) moving up for a smoother finish, say 400grit. You could leave it unpainted. In that case make sure you only sand with the 'grain' to retain the brushed look

I suggest disassembling since wetsanding is asking for hidden water to short something but is 100x better and easier than dry

The gloss black paint came off the touchpad buttons on one of my laptops ages ago, I cleaned all of it off and the brushed aluminium almost looks intentional like its part of the design among the flat Clevo matte black plastics.

Ok, I'll be searching for these materials next week, much thanks!

Another question, if I actually want to repaint it black, I don't know but just in case, what kind of paint type do you suggest? I've painted some things before but wasn't metal or a notebook back :p.

    Regards!

If you are sanding it. Use Metal primer paint, then your color choice over it. They sell 2 in 1 primer + color spray paints, they are not as good as using a solo primer.

If you don't want to spend all that time disassembling and sanding. Use a Metal+ Plastic primer, then coat with a textured paint.

I vote for brushed aluminum look or maybe if you ever want to change color you could paint it with plasti dip after you've sanded it all off

    simple way to do it:

Thank you guys, especially bennyg and ThatOldGuy for the tips and heads up!

After nearly 4 months I finally took my lazy ass out of the chair and made it!

I choose paint it Black, matte black, because even though the laptop was rocking with just the brushed aluminum it was more scratch friendly and tbh I feel that black would be better suited for him. I think it did came out amazingly, although not perfect because it was my first time painting such thing.

    Aaaand I brought some photos!

Again, thanks everyone! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
