Think I can paint my touchpad?

Hey everyone, just wondering if you think there would be any adverse effects if I painted my touchpad? Any ideas?

 

VooDooPC does it, but they're professionals..

 

If they can do it, I can do it, lol! I don't see why it would hurt it. If I do it, I'll let you know how it turns out...

Um, I dont think it will work. If you try making your touchpad go with something other than your hand, it wont go. I think putting a layer of paint on there will wreck it.

 

Yea, good point, I may do it later, but not this time around!

 

Painting the touchpad would most likely make it less sensitive. It might not work quite as well.

 

Yeah, let us know...I imagine it recalibrates when the computer is restarted but there's only one way to find out.

 

Voodoo doesn't on all their machines only some, and they know what they're doing if your going to practice first anyway you can and as much as you can. Also if it matches the keyboard which I assume it does I don't see the point.

 

Actually my touch pad does not match my keyboard. I think I opted out of painting it this time around. I picked up this really awesome dark metallic grey color. Unfortunately, I tested it and it actually is a textured paint. So for now, I will just be painting the white trim on my i6000, but maybe the lid with the textured paint.

 

what about useing a black dye to paint it? the dye would soak into the plastic and the senor would not even know its there. what do yall think?

 

I think that would work, I think the key is probably to put the thinnest ammount of whatever you are going to use on as possible. I ended up not painting my touchpad though because I was using a textured paint and that definately would not be a good idea. Within the next couple of days, I will get some pictures posted. First I am going to work on writing my heat mod guide!

 

In the interest of science I pulled the touchpad out of my old palm rest and am in the process of painting it.

Yup, it works.

I gave the pad 2 thin coats of Krylon fusion, 4 thin coats of Krylon clear and a couple coats of teflon wax to make it smoother. The pad works fine.

 

good to know, so has anyone popped off one of the buttons on the touch pad before. cause i did and i cant seem to get it to snap back on. is there a trick to this, i am aware of the metal clip piece and how it goes together but it just wont snap and stay in place

 

since touchpads are POS, and made by the devil

Are those just dust specs in the pic? It looks pretty cool but I would still be very careful.

I used the Krylon Fusion Hammered Metal paint which is dark grey with silver specks. For the pad in the pic I used a spare part I had laying around as a test case. I think I could have used more coats of paint for a better look. I'm going to paint my other touchpad and do more along the lines of what I did with the quick-snap cover on my PC.

I think the key thing is to take time and follow directions on the paint.

 

not really.. we have touchpads covered with masking tapes and they work just fine. masking tape is way thicker than a couple coats of paint.

I wouldn't paint my touchpad. If you accidentally paint it too thick there's nothing safe to take it off with.

for testing, i just placed a paper towel on my touchpad and it still worked so i think the paint will as well. i've worn away my paint. lol ... from what I can see, compaq has done 3 layers.
i guess i use this thing way too much. i've eaten through all 3. haha

 

When I painted my car, I used really REALLY thin coats of rust-oleum exterior paint. It was thinned 50/50 with mineral spirits. A few coats of that would give a good tint effect...just an idea
