    Hey forum members!

I own a M1437G Fujitsu Siemens and I am very happy with it. But one thing disturbs me very very much. I do a lot of gaming and after 2 months I realized that the left palm area was getting darker and darker every day.

Now I know this is because of the building quality (which isnt so good I see) but is there a way to prevent this from getting worse?

I once saw a picture of the laptop of a forum member, he had a big sticker on that area. Will that help?

    Charlie-Peru :)

I hear some people are using silicon screen protector type materials over the palm areas to prevent this.

However. I am wondering if there is a better option out there too.. TO prevent things.

Only other idea is buy a laptop that has a black housing already..

I hated that my E1505 is silver.. and then I hear it would stain too prob over time from the oils of your palms. >.<

just wipe the palm rest every now and again with a wet, cotton cloth. If needed, use a tiny amount of detergent.

ShieldZone makes protectors for the iBooks and MacBooks that go around the touchpad to prevent what you are talking about. There was another company that made them for PCs but I can't find them anymore.

You could also take a peice of paper, trace the shape of your palmrest to make a pattern, and then get a lamanating sheet from an office supply store and use your pattern to make a custom protector.

    good luck!

This is what I should have done from day one...but I didn't, and before I knew it, I had the aforementioned palm oil residue going on. I decided to cover the palm rests up with a few stickers. It protects the surface from further discoloration, and I think makes my notebook a little less ho hum.

BTW, I found a ton of nice stickers at stickergiant.com. Just wanted to pass that along as it took me a while to find a good source for stickers online.

Stickers can leave stuff behind if you take them off tho.

I would rather get a vinal skin for it, but I dont know where I could find those for the touchpad area. Right now I am using a small screen protector. Its not perfect, but least I know its abit covered.

Just why o why couldnt dell make it black...

I've had good luck with removing sticker adhesive with Goo Gone, though haven't tried it on a laptop. I would assume it would work the same as removing adhesive from any other plastic.

As far as just cleaning the palm rest area with Goo Gone, I tried this (before placing stickers) and it didn't remove the discoloration.

You can also use Oops to remove sticker residue. You can get it at hardware stores, and it's basically a paint remover. It's mild compared to (acetone) nail polish remover because in my experience, it hasn't dissolved plastic like nail polish remover can do. I would think that any paint remover would work the same way. I used Oops to remove sticker residue from the Windows, etc stickers that came on my laptop. Since it's watery, it removed the paper part of the stickers that didn't come off, too. Put it on a cotton ball or, if you don't have them, a paper towel, rub the cotton ball against the sticky stuff you want to remove, and voila, it's gone!

I put an apple sticker on mine in that spot, even though after about 6 months it hasnt gotten dirty, i think it looks good. Only reason I put an apple on a compaq is because I work 99% with apples at work.
