HAHA heres a question and i dont want to hear anything about voiding warranties like i forgot the obvious!
Anyone know anything about painting notebooks? taking it apart and painting the chasis? I was readin that review about the admin i think? going to voodoo so it rasied my curiosity. Any ideas would be helpful on how to go about this.

Well, this is from assumptions but...

Take it apart(duh!), the bezel, and everything, sand it down, mix some paint(No house paint, need top of line?), put it on, make a few layers, then gloss it, wax, etc.

You have to buy car paint, I would think; I'm fairly sure that companies like Voodo use car paint as well.

The best idea is to take it to a body shop that's done this a time or two before. Unless you have the right tools, you'll mess it up.

Be aware that doing this voids your warranty.

Like I said in another thread... if you do it yourself make sure you take your time doing the prep (masking off and sanding)! If you take it to a body shop expect to pay for 1-2hours of shop time plus materials.

Yes you just want to cover it with a clear coat (or har spray enamel) afterwords. Remember to sand(lightly scuff) the letters out before you paint so that the surface allows the paint to adhere. The wipe off with a damp cloth as to remove any dirt or grime. Tape down the stencil and then cover the rest of the notebook in thick paper or a plactic bag would suffice. Spray the primer first and after that dries multiple thin light coats of paint allowing time to dry inbetween. Then when pleased with the color, cover with a clear coat or hard spray enamel. Remember it's almost all in the prep work and remembering to keep the coats of paint light and thin so they won't run.
Thats why having a case painted can cost a couple hundred, becasue good prep work takes alot of time. Thats why you never take your car to Maaco.

    Hey Everyone,
Try doing a search for modding I know I have seen this topic on another site with step by step instructions {or is it step by step destructions }. Try "modding" as a keyword on the search. Let us know with pictures how you make out.

This has been done by one of the admins at NBR.

    http://spiike.shadowdragon.net/laptop painting.htm

Was thinking about doing it to my i9300 but I dont have the time to do it.

I'm sure Chaz just wanted to point out it voids warranty just in case anyone else wasn't aware..

Hey what about just doing accents? like geting a stensil and covering the rest and air brushing it or somthing like that

i'm going to get the FE soon and i think it'd be badass to add a spiraling or swirling golden inlay to the white casings in random locations, OR do spiraling/swirling black inlays ...

    just an idea....

(do you think -that- would void the warrenty?)

I don't understand why you would want to paint a notebook. I think you'll just make a mess of it. But if you want to get it painted, you should get it done by someone proffesional.

Maybe i am a professional? or maybe that was my original plan, to take it to a professional.

i'd like to get my notebook painted for the same reason yo uwear the type of clothes you do or use the type of car you do. Its about self expression and style. and i have a friend who is a professional painter, and i was just askikng before i did somthing that would void my warrenty, trying to get feedback from people who already have done simular things...

Well, some people don't like the original color their notebook came in. My lid came as orange from the factory, which I find garish, I'd like it either in black, gray or white. Some people like to paint it themselves for fun, to learn, be a little adventerous.
