Is 9 pounds bearable weight for a notebook that will leave the house everyother day or so? I know my ps3 weighs 12 pounds and its a bit heavy

Personally, I feel it is a bit much. My G2S is very heavy, probably that 7-10 pound class and is by no stretch of the imagination a super portable laptop. I refused to carry it around everyday, thus I purchased the Asus 1000H. The 15.4" rather than the 17" size is best. 15.4" or smaller would be best. IMHO

If you are only using it every other day for travel, you should be fine with a 15.4 inch, though I prefer a 14.1.
Get as low a weight as you can, try not to go above 7 pounds max. Most 15.4 inch weight in the 6 pound range and 14 inchers are usually around 5 or so.

That is what many have done and it works great for me. I have my desktop replacement for heavy tasks and gaming, and my netbook for notes, internet, email, light games, music, etc.

my desktop replacement is just shy of 26lbs after all of the modifications. When it worked, it wasnt too bad to carry. You definitely knew when you had the system in your bag or not, but it was not unbearable. I have a very comfortable military backpack which I bought at a military surplus store. It has very good padded shoulder straps which help to disperse the weight.
9 lbs is nothing

Yeah sorry, 9 pounds is a lot to have on your back every day... I had a 7 pound laptop and it still got to be a bit much to have on my back everyday. I now go for the 4 pound range (just had an M1330). Much more comfortable.

I have a 8.5 pounds 17" notebook and I carry it to university and to work everyday.
I have no problem with that... I carry it in my backpack... :\ I'm used to it... but that just me :/ -
Another thing may also have to do with your backpack. I was practically breaking my back and pulling the muscles in my shoulders every time I walked for a long distance with my old 6 lb laptop - but I recently got a Swiss Gear laptop backpack, and just having a good design for weight distribution & thick/padded straps made it a lot more bearable to carry the thing around. Although I'm now carting around a 4-lb laptop, I could easily go back to my 6-lb laptop with the right backpack.
So my recommendation would be - if you really can't do without a heavy laptop - after you buy it, take it with you to a few stores and try out different backpacks to see which one feels the best on your shoulders. -
Yeah i recon that is a bit heavy for a lappy your gonna be carrying around everyday.

Not only do you have to take the laptop weight into consideration (I concur with everyone here 9+ is too large). You need to also take the weight of the bag, the padding, the accessories, the AC adapter, media...etc. Depending on what you'll be taking with you this can quickly add up.
If you're walking long distances, stairs, up hill, public transportation, etc... these become massively unwieldy and will take a toll on you physically.
Large notebooks are great for occassional portability but as others have mentioned smaller notebooks are much more preferable.
You can opt for rolling laptop case but even that can be a burden.
What is the primary use for the laptop when you'll be out?
Notebook weight???
