Hey I posted something similar before in the dell forum. The palm rest area (especially on the side on the left of the touchpad) faded a couple days after I received my machine. It's clearly visible, the color comparing to the rest of the laptop's finishing is rather milky white comparing to a dull gray/silver color.

I have a good bet it's caused by the sweating from my hand when I use WASD for extensive amount of time (don't get me wrong, I clean my laptop a lot and the color faded while my hand was on there, it's not due to sweat acid left on there for too long or anything)

Anyway the most temporary fix is to add some kind of liquid (spit, drinking h2o) on it and the affected area will look like the rest --- for about 10 seconds, before it dries off. So I got creative, I found some lip balm I use (carmex) and I applied it on there, that stuff doesn't dry in a week or so (it doesnt get caught on my palm because I apply a TINY amount)

Anyway I was thinking if carmex works like a charm, I bet there's something more permanent people use for crafts and construction projects. I think I am looking for some kind of metal finishing. I know there's this layer you can brush onto wood to make it shiny.

I am no expert, anything you use that's good for this?
