I'm looking for a laptop with a matte display that suits what I'm after but since there aren't that many, I'm considering just buying a matte screen protector. My question is: Do matte screen protectors work as well (reducing glare etc) as a laptop with a pre-applied matte display and are there any advantages to just buying a laptop with a matte screen as opposed to applying a protector. TIA.

No, they work horrible. Less light too. And don't work well outdoors. Get a real matte screen.
