My new asus N50 is totally glossy. I'm borderline OCD when it comes to the cleanliness of my laptop. I finished half a bottle of Isopropyl alcohol in a month for cleaning the glossiness.

Matte finishes hide fingerprints more easily. Are there any matte finish (or rubberized) skins out there? All of the skins I've seen are glossy finish vinyl.

Now as I said, it's TOTALLY glossy, including the palmrests. That's just idiotic in my book. the palm rests are touched around 95% of the time that a laptop is used, and the glossy finish makes my hands sweaty and makes the palm rests dirty.

So basically I want a matte or rubberized laptop skin, with palm rest protectors.

I just wanted to say that I don't like glossy chassis either. I bought a zagg cover for my dell mini 9 for $25 just for the lid because its glossy
I do like glossy screens though ;)

I hated the glossy screen on my old laptop, but that was because everything else was matte finish, and the palm rests were brushed aluminum :D (which is a very good idea, for the record)

Now that I have this new computer, the glossy shell annoys me much more than the glossy screen does. I still hate it though ;) I want to get a matte screen protector for the screen too, but I have already located where to get that from.

I share your distaste for glossy palmrests and chassis (especially when the laptop's palmrests make your palms sweat because one side is right above the GPU with a poor cooling system). That's why I decided to dump the Gateway M-152XL, my former laptop, to get this Alienware m9750. I really love the rubberized feel of this laptop. So soft...mmm...

what works well i have found is the 3m clear bra material they make for cars. ive used it a few times and applied it to the palmrest's and it wipes clean easily and you can peel it right off when it gets worn and replace it.. maybe whoever you are going through has simply a clear skin??

what about contact paper? There are some threads about this subject which suggest the use of contact paper to make custom skins.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=288437

I've heard good things about contact paper as you can use many different colors and materials (such as leather) to customse your laptop. Something like that might be better than a glossy finish

    That's a good idea Fred.
I just might try that on my mini 9.

I love you O_O. I've seen that before. I don't know why I didn't think of it. 15 bucks for 6 feet... That is one hell of a good deal. A standard laptop skin is around 10 bucks as it is. 5 bucks more, and I get around 7x more material.

Does anybody know where contact paper can be bought in a brick and mortar store? Would it be in automotive stores, hobby/crafts stores like micheals, or would it be in stores like home depot?

I can't decide what type of contact paper I want. So far, I've got it down to 4 choices, and I need to get it down to 1 choice.

    Classic black faux leather:
    http://www.amazon.com/Black-Faux-Leather-Contact-Paper/dp/B001B013AE

    Faux tan suede:
    http://www.amazon.com/Kittrich-Corp...3OR21ZBDZL0W&s=generic&qid=1230586476&sr=1-13

    Brushed pewter metallic:
    http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Brushed-Pewter-Contact-Paper/dp/B000KKMO8Q/ref=pd_sbs_k_5

    matte clear window cover:
    http://www.amazon.com/CLEAR-SAND-BLAST-continuous-foot/dp/B0012NH1NS/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_4

Ok now this is why I chose those

Faux leather: Having a leather laptop is just kickass, looks cool, and it's as close to rubber as I get with these 4 choices.

Suede: My laptop is glossy black on the LCD lid, and the palmrest and touchpad are bronze/tan colored. It matches, but I think that having the ENTIRE laptop be tan suede would look bad.

Pewter: my old laptop had brushed metal palmrests, and it was very comfortable to type on, plus it looks awesome.

matte clear: It retains the look of the entire laptop (which doesn't look half bad) and it gives me the matte finish that I want.

If I get the leather, suede, or pewter papers, I'm going to mod my mouse to match (logitech VX revolution) It's already matte, so there's no point in putting the matte finish on it ;)

Right now I think I'm leaning towards the black leather. Anyone have any ideas? I can only buy 1 style contact paper (I'm not even sure if my parents will go for that :p), so don't tell me to buy a combination of 2 or 3 of them.

Where are you planning on getting this matte screen protector? could be good to know in the case that I don't like the gloss on my new laptop.

Hmmm...I like the Black faux leather...
BUT, I am really rockin on the Brushed pewter metallic...That just looks way cool! And, you stated your old notebook had brushed metal palmrests, was easy to type on, and it looked awesome!

My choice would be the Brushed Pewter Metallic! It just looks awesome!

Please keep us updated as to what you chose!

I would be on it if I knew that it was actually brushed metal. It would suck if I bought it, and it turned out to be flat foil paper with the "brushedness" just streaks of paint.

Yes, that's true..Can you contact the company and ask about more *specifics* on the contact paper? Maybe, the company would be willing to send you more pics, detailed info, etc. :D

    Just a thought!

i hate glossy cases too, my compaq presario cq50 has a glossy screen,(cant think of the term) but whenever i close my notebook, i see all the fingerprints and i imiediantly want take the cleaner that came with it out, but that still doesnt do the job, and the part thats near the mouse pad or w.e on mine is made out of a aluminum type of material (same with the mouse pad, and the right/left click) which was a stupid thing to do, but i do like the look of it when its clean. hope you find what you need

You'd all probably hate the hp tx2500 tablet.
It is 90% glossy. Glossy scree, glossy lid, glossy palm rest, glossy keyboard, ect.
The only non glossy part was the bottom and it was made of cheap plastic that would get scratched easily.

Aaah..that's not very nice...Good customer service responds sooner than that. Plus they should've sent you an e-mail acknowledgement. :(

Here is the link to their Contact Customer Service page (I'm sure you have this) ;)
    http://www.kittrich.com/service.html

Call the toll free number and advise them of your questions, comments, etc.

And, let them know you sent an email several days ago, and have had no response.

Maybe that will *light a fire* for them! :D

Nope. My dad is in India right now (vacation) and my mom doesn't like putting her credit card info on the internet. I told her that amazon is a very good website, but she doesn't want to risk anything.

Stuff like this is much cheaper in india (think 25 cents per foot), so I'm going to ask my dad to try to find it.
