Hi, I am considering getting a matte (or even privacy) screen protector for my laptop (should have gotten that matte screen! :( ). I am concerned about other (unwanted) effects on my laptop screen as I am doing photography and video work on my laptop too.

Anyone have experience in this before? (e.g. colour changes e.t.c)

    Thanks!

At my work place, they have privacy screen protector that fits over the screen.

From my limited experience with them, they really kill your viewing angles since they're designed for those sitting directly in front of the screen.

With matte screen protectors, I believe you'll lose a little bit of clarity and sharpness. It was acceptable for basic office work but since you're doing photography work, you'd have how much impact it has on your work.

Since you're doing photography work, I'd recalibrate the monitor after installing it to compensate for any differences.

If you can completely replace the screen on your laptop to a matte one, that would be the best but also the most expensive option.

    Hope that helps.

How would I go about recalibrating the monitor? Is this something to do with the colourimeter?

Hmm... How does software calibration compare to hardware? (i.e. how much the difference is?)

What do you mean by "software calibration"? What would you use to calibrate in that case?

Well, then you have to do it by eye. If you buy a colour sensor, as far as I know it should calibrate itself.

So the colourimeter/colour sensor is more for convienence/near-perfectness rather than a need?

Well, personally, I don't trust my eyes to do a calibration, but if it's good enough for you then it's good enough. :D

Note: I have not had my screen calibrated.

Just got a matte screen protector (also paid the shop to help with it). Surprisingly no issues; the colour remained the same without any reflection.
